bayrider
is this true? my cousin was telling me how he heard that mel gibson was directing a movie about Jesus' last days and tehre was a lot of controversy. Anyone got any info on this or a trailer or something. thanks
uniacidz
Yep is already made. Cant remember the name though. Controvery is that its gruesome (life like) and also that it is not in english but some old dialect they used back in the days of the birth of Christ and Mel Gibson, being the producer does not want to add subtitles to it as this will take away the true feeling of the film. Something like that i heard down the grapevine.
bayrider
it may have not been Mel Gibson, coulda been something else. I was a bid faded when he told me last night ;)

Chris Allen Veteran Posted September 14, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2003 Movie was made totally in Latin which I think is very cool. What's wrong with a little bit of controversy over a film? Sometimes it works with the film. Anyone seen 'Bowling for Columbine'?
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted September 14, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2003 It was contreversial not because it was in Latin but because alot of Jews thought it was anti semantic(sp?), and were afraid alot of christians would see this and again blame Jews for Jesus' death. Pretty lame reason to be controversial though, since I don't see Germany getting all up in arms when we make a WW2 movie.
ishtar
Yea their p/oed because they don't want people to know they sent Jesus to his death. Though it was prophetised anyhow and they were forgiven for it. Jesus asked god to forgive them.

Ahhhh, thanks for reminding me.(semantic) I do know also, Mel's friends, collegues and family also have insisted to have some sort of subtitles for the movie but he keeps refusing this. Anyway. Wolvereen
I think its kinda funny/sad hwo much attention is being devoted to the issue of Anti-semitism in the film. Here's the deal as a Christian. While it might have been people of Jewish decent that physically lead to Christ's crucifiction, the whole POINT of the Bible and of Christianity as a whole is that Christ died for ALL our sins. It doesn't matter if you are Jewish, White, Asian, Rich, Poor, Man, Woman, Christ died because "we all fall short of the glory of God". Just my 2 cents. Also, are you sure its in Latin? I thought it was Aramaic for some reason? Last I heard too, Mel hadn't decided if he wanted sub-titles or not. He believed that the images would move you to understand what was going on inspite of not being able to understand the words. Last I heard they were going back and forth on what to do... Defiantely gonna get my $9 though.
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted September 14, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2003 Doesn't matter who's fault it was it was 2000 years ago, all the people who did it are dead. Carrying a grudge for 2000 over someone you never met, gainst a group of people who's ancestors have long since died is silly.
EzeWong
the Vatican gave its approval Vatican gave its approval? Lol since when did the vatican ever affect any descion? Anyways I think its crap people would even think that just because jews killed jesus that its an anti-semetic movie... OMFG JESUS was a JEW! Jesus Christ was a jew, killed by jews... How anti-semetic is that? Thats like watching a Euro movie and going, sh1t man, those ****** italians just killed that other italian dude... this movie is sooo racist.... jackwanders
I would think, if the movie was going to be made in the native tongue, it would be Aramaeic (sp?), not latin.

electic102
I saw the trailer and think it is going to be a great movie and I could care less what Jews think about it. I hope it is sub-titled though, it seems like a very artistic and original film. Will get my 9 bucks for sure.
