Growled Member Share Posted June 27, 2011 Isn't it against the law to work hamsters until they die?

DaveLegg Developer Share Posted June 28, 2011 YEAH ! Content hamsters are back on-line ! :D For now, we'll be taking it down a couple more times while we do some work on the server hardware to find the root cause of the issue.
lordofangels Share Posted June 28, 2011 Did this cause the other bug, where we had no View new content? Or was that totally different?
Rudy Share Posted June 28, 2011 We share the same datacenter, but Neowin LLC is it's own entity, meaning we pay for that privilege and the servers are ours :) Nevermind me, I didn't read your first post properly  I read that a Neowin database server IN Europe died.....but you were just saying that "this morning in Europe" the server died I'll try to read better next time :woot:

Charisma Veteran Share Posted June 28, 2011 I retract my statement. Your comments combined with me noticing how little Anya actually moves during the day, has changed my answer. I propose cats with laser beams. They tend to like those. On hamster wheels. If that's too expensive, what about ants? They're hard workers. "You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have cats with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!"
xendrome Share Posted June 28, 2011 "You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have cats with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!" Pretty sure it was sharks...

shakey Share Posted June 28, 2011 I propose a more humane fashion for electricity.... Rabbits and hamster wheels, but it's a little different... You have the rabbits constantly eating, and when they poop, it falls down onto the hamster wheel, much like those water turbines, and pushes the wheel with rabbit poop power.... Steven P. Author Founder Share Posted June 29, 2011 Copied from first post. Update: Well not site downtime, but it grabs your attention :p One of our servers will be pulled from the rack later today (probably afternoon/evening EST) Stardock has kindly offered a spare ESXi server to host the two VM's that are on the server that needs looking at, and transfer of that will take anything up to 2 or 3 hours, after which our own server will be put through its paces. That server has failed twice since December and it's our newest server, so instead of kicking it like we did last time, we're going to see if there's a hardware issue. This is to inform you that things could get slow again later for a period, but Stardock has resources to cover us while our server is out. So, thanks Stardock!

Steven P. Author Founder Share Posted July 16, 2011 The Server was put back into the mix a couple of weeks ago :p Edit: It would feel sluggish due to the ads, hopefully we'll have a fix for that soon.
