graeme_7799
Hey I was just wondering, I've seen on websites, screenshots of lets say the About window in Internet Explorer. I want to know why people always blur it out or cross it out. Is it something that hackers can use to get into your computer? If so, please tell me. Because then I will cross mine out too so I'm not vulnerable. Thanks.
ike
it's because they dont want people using their IDs for anything. to be honest i'm not sure what you could do with it, as it's not a direct copy of it but yea.
wicker_man
probably because you wouldn't want someone else to know your credit card # either

John Veteran Posted September 14, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2003 because the product id can be reversed into a product key. there was an article on the specifics of it all a while ago, and i have it somewhere... but basically, a product key and product ID are able to be converted into each other. edit: found it. it's quite long and detailed though, so most of you will stop reading because you're either bored or you don't care... windows_product_key_to_product_id.txt
MxxCon
you can't exactly convert product id into product key, but whenever you contact MS for support and other stuff, they ask for your product id.. so i can use premium support feature and you will get the bill..
