Virus, help please

Question

Hey all, I'm hoping this is the correct forum section, it said 'support' so I just assumed it was best suited to the subject. I got a virus some time ago so that now everytime I log onto my computer windows explorer doesn't automatically load-up, it shows a black screen. I've come up with a temporary fix (well it is permanent but still annoying) I've made a batch file which loads windows explorer manually and put it in my startup folder (this only loads-up my documents so I've had to put a copy of the batch file into my documents to load it) also I believe this error started appearing at the same time I got the virus:

dllerror.jpg

Also turning off my computer now takes a looooong time and I don't just mean in comparison to how it used to turn off pretty much instantly, now it takes a couple of minutes.

I just thought I might add that I was going to do a destructive restore but the way I was told to do this was by re-installing windows so I popped in the cd and typed the the cd key but for some reason this doesn't seem to even fit the format for a cd key for my OS..

Any help is very much appreciated

-Alex

Okay, I got 'autoruns' and found the dll which popped as an error and it says 'file not found: C:\..\..\..\ljJATJbC.dll' does this mean I'll have to scower the internet (or just copy from another computer) the dll file?

Also the key I attempted to enter is the only one anywhere in the packaging.

that dll file was part of the malware. just disable it from running (uncheck it).

destructive repair instructions

insert cd

boot off cd

choose your language

go into advanced hard drive settings

use the format hard drive option

install windows on newly formatted harddrive

insert key when asked after the drive has been formatted.

If you put in a key prior to wiping the drive you put it in the wrong place and it is not an upgrade key.

Check your msconfig startup list, but in addition, check your scheduled tasks to see if there's anything 'dodgy' listed in there.

autoruns...msconfig on steroids.

You should be able to run Regedit, search for ljJATJbC.dll entry, and Delete it.

That should fix it.

After, I would run a chkdsk scan.

But ultimately, I would save your personal files, erase the hard disk, and Reinstall.

I would use a Product Key finder program first, to find the actual product key for your copy of Windows.

I'd still try and get rid of the malware before a full reinstall. System files that have been hijacked and/or deleted can be recovered through a boot-up system files restore. Get Malwarebytes Antimalware on the machine if you don't have it already, or MSE.

Just do full-on (not quick) scans that should reach into your system subdirs and also check any archive-type files on the disk. And like others have said, the missing file is malware so you can ignore it and whatnot. A system file repair/reinstall should get the proper explorer.exe running etc.

edit: once you're scanned and disinfected, we can work on the slow boot and/or shutdown times. Most likely Windows is trying to load malware that isn't there or isn't working properly or even attempting network communication before any network connectivity has been established thus tying down the processor.
