" Disk read error " randomly

Question

Hy

Starting a few days ago (2-3) an error simply annoys me on pc startup.. just after bios status screen.

Disk read error occured

Ctrl+alt+del to restart

I have installed Windows 7 SP1 2 weeks ago but until now all played really normal. Today I've opened the case and checked all cables and after all here I am.. posting.

Haven't attached any new external/internal hardware . After a few restarts it recovers but I'd like to find out if there's a software or hardware issue.

Thanks a lot for any suggestion.

I'm back with the same story.. after so many months..gave me the tip to check CPU position and cmos even I haven't up-clocked my system.

Any other tips are welcome; refused to think then to test if my hdd got bads but first I'll be able to log-in I'll check for this..

Failing hard drive. My second laptop drive does this... well the system hard locks sporraticlly (returns to normal after a few minutes) but on occasion will reboot. My SMART data didn't show anything, so I assume mine is circutry related.

2c, try Seagate SeaTools or Fedora/Ubuntu with the Disk Utility app. Both will show SMART data and can show you if any disk errors or anything out of the ordinary is occuring.

More importantly though, setup a backup process and let it run semi-frequently (twice weekly + initial system image) incase the drive fails.

Thanks!

What have experienced today after starting it and check boot order (which was the single option for passing disk error) is that outlook and even winamp (first opened progs) freezed after short time and entire system finally so had to manually reset.. also hdd led was on permanently..could be entirely related to hdd, I'll check tommorow sata connectors and even master/slave configuration.
