What Is The Best 3D Card For Games and DVD Playback?

Recommended Posts

one thing I have to say is that Geforces have NO hardware DVD acceleration, so ppl saying that playback is crisp is to do with their CPU and their software DVD player. Having said that, most PC's nowadays r fast enuff to play DVD's thru software, and when I had a RADEON 64MB VIVO, I never actually got any of the players to use it's acceleration anyway....

'just my 2 cents' (as ppl here seem to say a lot)

:D

One of the best Video Cards with GeForce 2 chipest is ELSA GeForce 2 GTS with 32 *or* 64MB DDR. Otherwise, you can buy ASUSTeK GeForce 2 GTS 32MB DDR. Price: Around 90-100 USD .

Ofcourse, you can buy ELSA GeForce 2 ULTRA :-) with 64MB DDR.

Why ELSA ? ELSA's RAM is clocked @ MAX ! I mean something really high :)

Of course, there are Nvidia-based cards that have better picture quality than others... it depends on the manufacturer. I don?t dislike Nvidia, don?t take me wrong - they make the best 3D cards out there - it?s just a shame they can?t add the 2D image sharpness of an ATI or Matrox card and their DVD playback quality. Maybe the Geforce 4 will do it...

ATI cards can give you hell or heaven... it depends on the luck (system) you have. But if they work well, they?re a great piece of hardware. They do DVD decoding in hardware, but it?s not only that detail (speed) that gives them the extra edge in DVD playback. It?s pure image quality. Compare and see.

Moving away from the 8500/GF3 debate, if you're considering a GF3, get a GF3 "Ti200", NOT ti500 as some might suggest. It's the same thing except for the memory clocking. You can up the clock on the Ti200 to match the performance of Ti500. Check Tomshardware for the benchmarks. Saves you about half the price. Think about it.
