So I have Spotify installed, and I am noticing that its free service compared to Pandora is kinda lacking, you have to pay to get the mobile app and you only get 20 hours rather than 40 hours of listening. Also I do not like the idea of having to install an application on my computer to listen in.

the ONLY bonus for this is i can listen to a specific album or song. rather than being random

Says i do not have any invites to hand out :(

That is the main attraction of Spotify.

Regarding complaints on limitations, Spotify does not do this for free. They get charged money every single time someone listens to a song. Unless you want your eyeballs completely bombarded by ads, that is probably they only way they minimize their losses.

Speaking of Pandora, Pandora LOSES money every time someone listens to a song. They do not make enough ad revenue. They are going to have to do something radical if they want to survive into the near future.

Hope I get an invite code soon. I'd love to check out Spotify!!!

It just seems that things like this get so hyped up when the hype is not really justified. I've never used the service and only read the web page about what they offer, but what is so great about this service that Rhapsody or some of the other service like it already offer? It seems like it's $5 cheaper, but other than that I don't see many things that we can't already get from other services. No need to flame, just a question.

In the end, it just comes down to which one offers the features you want, the music collection you want (and how well it's curated), and which one has the best client software. I love the software for Spotify, so that's why I'm using it.

My only complaint would be that it's not very easy to be social. Rdio really excels at making it easy to find public playlists and networking with people that you might not be friends with on Facebook.

I've tried adding the last two people requesting invites and they are already registered as spotify users. I got about 25 invites though if anyone is interested.

And to list up some of what makes Spotify shine for me so this thread hopefully won't derail. Some of these features requires premium version.

* create your own playlists - you are not forced to listen on a radio channel, premade playlist or play entire albums.

* "powerful" search options like "year: 1990-2000", "genre: rock"

* connect to Facebook and see playlists created by your friend

* share individual songs or playlists with anyone through links

* Connect with your iOS, Android WP7, Nokia or Palm device.

* Sync playlists for offline music when you haven't got an active internet connection

* Drag your personal MP3 files over into spotify, and have them synced to other devices as well by adding them to your playlists.

* A pretty good client across the platforms

I'm probably forgetting something, and I know a lot of these features are available on other services in the US, Spotify just happened to be the first available to me in Europe.
