Frank
lol y do you guys have servers, any of u have more then cable or dsl any t1's or t3's or ?!? There are a lot of different reasons to have a server set up at home. If you have multiple computers and you want to be able to access shared files without bogging down someone else; or looking through 5 different computers you can create a server to have a central store of information. A lot of people also create SQL servers, and Domain Controllers to learn about them. How to administer them, and such......You don?t need a T1 to have a reason to have a server... Joe User 99
lol y do you guys have servers, any of u have more then cable or dsl any t1's or t3's or ?!? Well...considering I am a network Admin & Install developer, I put my work knowledge to use at home. I am running 24 port 100mbit through the house. I also have a PDC set up to control a number of aspects. None of which requires any T1 orT3. 1) Control the login times of my kids, and which systems they can use. 2) Use group policy to control what they can do on those systems and on the shared Cable Internet connection. 3) Control the distribution of software (Apps/Games/Patches, etc) through GP, AD, and SUS. 4) Have central storage/streaming for files/music/video. 5) Have dedicated game servers. (Quake3, Battlefield1942) 6) Have a internal web server with family calendar, message board, phone lists, etc. And probably a ton more I can't think of right now.
