clonk
At home I follow the following naming convention for user machines: FirstName-ComputerMake (with a few exceptions for ComputerMake here and there), which gives me: nathan-pc nathan-tablet drew-compaq drew-thinkpad tyler-compaq heidi-vaio andersons-mce My father has two machines on the network which do not follow the family naming convention as they are his work laptop and tablet. The monicker 'pc' is used for custom built computers, 'tablet' is my Compaq TC1000 tablet pc, and 'mce' is the family media center computer hooked up to the plasma in the TV commons area. Now my place of employement is another matter entirerly. I follow this naming convention: CompanyIntials-ComputerManufacturer-Model-ComputerNumber, which gives me: MI-HP-d325-a / b / c / d MI-VAIO-w10 MI-VAIO-w20 ..and so on My servers are named after things in the LOTR so I have Isenguard Helms-deep soon to be unvieled - Mordor We are a small business so I don't need many servers to keep everything running smoothly. Helms-deep might be getting a name change here pretty soon as named him when I couldn't think of anything better.
