Ding Ding Ding

Exactly, male parts were designed to work with female parts. Any other way around involves great possibility of disease, which is STUPID.... Rather offend then risk death!

It's not about being a homophobe, its about common F5#!ng sense!

"Today, all donated blood is tested for HIV, as well as for hepatitis B and C, syphilis and other infectious diseases, before it can be released to hospitals. This is why gay activists, blood centers including the American Red Cross, and even some lawmakers now claim the lifetime ban is ?medically and scientifically unwarranted.?

Let me narrow it down for you:

"Today, all donated blood is tested for HIV, as well as for hepatitis B and C, syphilis and other infectious diseases, before it can be released to hospitals."

can AIDS be transmitted through plasma

I don't believe it survives so no. Not sure though...

Someone here raised a good point about HepC. Now, I dunno but I will BET you that there are social trends that tie in with other diseases - for example a farmer is more at risk of tetanus than a city worker due to the use of dangerous metal machenery - shall we not allow anyone wearing a hard-wearing denim to not give blood because to me he looks like a farmer and must carry tetanus?

you don't have the right to not be offended

Here's a thing - you don't ACTUALLY have the right to spout bull**** and offend people randomly - go on claim freedom of speech and show how you misunderstand it.

I have never given blood, but wouldn't they look at your records before using the donated blood? Turning someone away because they look or act gay is wrong.

Unless he has given blood at that place before, then there most likely isnt a record for him. They usually dont keep records that are readily accessible. You usually go in, give basic info and answer a few questions, then give your blood.

fyi, you can't always instantly test for HIV, but most of the time you can test for it if it's been 30 days since infection....although to be sure you may have to wait up to six months.

You clearly arent thinking with a rational brain. First off blood used for transfusions is tested for hepatitis to HIV. Second any diseases that are in the gay community are ALSO in the hetero community. In fact given the laws that forbid gays from giving blood actually mean that any diseases that get through potentially come from hetero blood donors instead. So step off that cloud of ignorance before making more retarded post.

wait, are you admitting that sometimes diseases might get through the tests undetected, right after you're claiming it's safe for gays to donate because it's tested?!

That just means that everyone who is sexually active needs to be turned away.. Not just homosexuals.

This thread really makes me sad for our species.

HIV isnt the only disease out there and IF anything gets through, it has nothing to do with gay or straight people but a failure on those doing the testing. I see you still dont know how to use your head.

Because they are usually into anal sex. Which involves poo.

Because straight couples NEVER have anal sex. /s

That's just ignorant.

What the hell are you talking about? Why cant gays give blood? Not every gay person has AIDS...

If you have ever given blood in the UK at least, being homosexual is one of the questions you have to answer on the pre-donation questionnaire, Are you a man who has ever had oral or anal sex with a man, with or without a condom? - That's the question, If the answer is yes you aren't allowed to donate blood. However they test each donation for various things anyway.

The fact that the guy "looked" gay is stupid.

Good job! Safety first...better to offend someone then kill someone. I am so sick of the American "You can't offend anyone" bull****! Get the f over it and move on...

What a sad and pathetic excuse for a human being you are. Poor rednecks like you should be banned together to some island far from civilization, since obviously you are far from civilized.

This law definitely needs to be reformed. Heterosexual couples can of course get AIDS too, and they also have anal sex unless you've been living in a shell.

Should a porn star not be able to give blood? I seriously wonder if they ask that question! Because she would have more of a chance of having an STD than a gay couple would!

I'm amazed more people aren't against getting blood from straight people. I mean, look at the divorce rates.

They get around.

And lots of porn stars have anal sex, therefore porn stars should definetely be banned.

Stupid law. If I was dying and needed blood it could come from a gay, straight, black, white, asian, man, women, Christian, Jew, Atheist, Muslim, Mormon, Catholic, etc.. or any combination thereof.

I can tolerate someone who doesn't like gay people. But I cannot tolerate an ignorant redneck that says "Safety first...better to offend someone then kill someone." implying obviously that gay people are more likely to have blood transmitted diseases. That's just retarded and ignorant. I wouldn't be surprised if he watches Fox News all day long.

Because, at least as of the last time I read about it, homosexuals are up to 400 times more likely to contract HIV/AIDS than heterosexual people. That's a big risk to take when it comes to something like blood transfers.

While I don't agree with homosexuality, I respect the right of others to do whatever they want with their romantic lives. That doesn't mean that I would feel comfortable receiving blood from a person who, through their own life choices, is radically more likely to have contracted a horrible, life ending disease.

Good job on the part of the blood center for taking some precautions.
