^^What? the police believes the attacks are not linked to an "Islamic" terrorist group?!!!

El Zawahry must be really angry now, he was trying to break his own record for the most consecutive terrorist attacks in the history. But you've got to love the PM's speech "We are a small nation and a proud nation. No-one will bomb us to silence, no-one will shoot us to silence." What is this guy talking about?! He couldn't have come up with a more irrelevant statement. I have a feeling though that a so called "Islamic" terrorist group will eventually claim responsibility.

please my earlier post.

This was the work of one man, a right-wing extremist.

Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami falsly claimed responsibility.

I've made trips into Norway while attending symposia at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. Very, very open and friendly people and I enjoyed Oslo a lot. So very sad.

I dag, vi er alle nordmenn :(

(Today, we are all Norwegians)

out of curiousity, why is everyone saying this guy is a right wing nut? has it been confirmed his politics are on the right side as opposed to the left? or he could be apolitical. also what are Norway's gun control laws like. how was he able to get his guns?

Norway has high gun ownership with a low gun crime rate, but it does have restrictions on how powerful a handgun can be sold - ex: my .50 Desert Eahle would be illegal. Permits and cause for ownership are standard even for sports guns like rifles and shotguns.

Crooks and crazies don't often follow the rules. and anyone with access to a basic metal shop with a lathe or multi-tool can make a gun from scratch. Easier than you think.

He was not apolitical, that much is obvious from the fact that he attacked a political gathering, which stinks of political motivation. As for his political stance,

He supposedly (I'm saying 'supposedly' because after the story broke his Facebook profile has been removed by FB) described himself as a Christian with conservative views on Facebook, but he removed that information a couple of days back.

Exactly. People think its impossible to just make a gun. Its really not hard. I kbow there is a town in Pakistan thatis known for making near perfect replicas. Right down to the serial number.

Wow 80 dead already and many in critical conditions. Could easily surpass 100. Why Norway?

Latest info gave the number of 87 victims: most of the victims have been killed at the island by the gunman.

Why Norway? It is a mistake to think that Scandinavia societies are peaceful and polished: there are rancors, racism and extremist fringe groups.

he had registeded ownership of three weapons; a machine gun of some type, a glock 17 and a shotgun.

If you have a clean record, you need basic training combined with a membership to a registered "gun club".

To get a shotgun, you need a hunters permit (clean record + an official training course).

as for the right-wing nut thing; read this, it sums it pretty well. http://translate.goo...rtid%3D10080621

Some things are lost in translation; this part :

Breivik has previously referred to Gro as "landsmo (s) container."

Gro Harlem Brundtland is known as "Landsmoderen" - "mother of the country"

Breivik's wordplay is "LandsmoRderen" - "killer of the country" .

Btw; official death tolls are up to 91 now, 84 at Ut?ya, and 7 in the explotion.

I still don't get how one man killed 91 people, 84 by his own hand up close. I guess the small island enabled him as it trapped his victims. He knew what he was doing.

he knew very well what he was doing. the reason for the "low" death tolls from the explosion, was due to that the norwegian government has their summer vacation.

The real target was the political youth camp.

The bomb was probably ANFO, made with artificial fertilizer and diesel.

From wikipedia:

" Breivik moved in late June or early July to the rural small town of Rena in ?mot, Hedmark county, west of Oslo,[3] where he operated a farming sole proprietorship under the name "Breivik Geofarm".[8] It has been speculated that he could have used the company as a cover to legally obtain large amounts of artificial fertilizer and other chemicals for the manufacturing of fertilizer explosives.[3] "

the company was created 18. mai 2009.

This shows that this was planned.

there were 700 youths at Ut?ya, on a limited area. Also, he was dressed as a policeman. this gave him the element of surprise.

Witnesses says he was firing one shot about every 10 seconds, cheering and screaming battlecries in between.
