Medking
Hey all, I think I should probably partition my external hard drive, into either three or four parts: 1. Time Machine backups 2. CCC backups (which I'm only doing as an additional safety measure right now due to installing Lion) 3. Random files that I want to store on the external and not on my hard drive (i.e. movies / tv shows) 4. OSX / Bootable section (I don't know if this is possible?) What's the best way to do this? The hard drive is already in use. I realize I probably should have created the partitions before using it. Is it too late to partition? (I also don't know if this thread is in the right section...) Thanks!
0 sc302 Veteran Posted July 23, 2011 Veteran Share Posted July 23, 2011 make folders. but you can use easeus partition manager free to partion it. Otherwise it is a wipe and repartition http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html
0 +BudMan MVC Posted July 23, 2011 MVC Share Posted July 23, 2011 Yeah 1 through 3 would just be folders, creating partitions would just limit your growth in 1 of those categories vs the others - and you always size wrong ;) As to #4, what do you want to do?? Boot OS X from an external USB drive? Yeah that would blow chunks Im sure for performance - but sure if you wanted to do something like that you might want specific partition for that. If you have NOT filled up your drive you could always shrink and create new partitions, etc. the easeus product sc302 points too will work, or depending you might just be able to use the built in tools. Would have to see how much space is free and the partition layout to tell, and then exactly what you wanted to do with that OS X boot thing. But 1 - 3 do not justify partitions at all, just folders is all you need.

Hey all,
