Software to record sounds played through PC.

Windows comes with a sound recorder. Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Sound Recorder.

You'll have to check your Sound settings under Control Panel, ensure that it's set to record PC sounds.

I use Goldwave, but Sound Recorder will do just fine.

I can't remember how to do it but you have to set the PC to use the sound output as the source for the recording. Something like right-clikcing and choosing "show disabled devices" or something and it's one of those you have to enable.

I dont have a sound card does High definition audio driver have that ability as what you said it available on mine (shown disabled devices is enabled)

Can your computer play any sound at all? If your motherboard has integrated audio, that still counts as a sound card.

I am playing music as we speak :) also recording sounds through FRAPS works also. but I cant on Audacity as there is no device to record :p

Weird, to say the least. I think FRAPS works because it doesn't capture audio through the sound card like most other software.

The only other program I know which can do this is called SoundLeech. Unfortunately, it crashes on my Win7 x64, but if you want to give it a try:
