New World Trade Center Massing Models Released

WTC complex isnt just 2 buildings, its 7 buildings, a mall and a subway... the whole development took 15yrs, i'd say from the day it was drafted on paper, approved by the city untill the completion of the last building took 15yrs, id say it takes about 2yrs for each building to get built.

thats definately not what i got out of watching the tv documentary. they had video footage in black and white shot in the 60's of the 2 main towers starting to get built, and more footage from the years following as they neared completion (finally in colour btw) i think it said one tower finished in 1974 and the other followed in 1975.

/edit .. ok yea i didnt mean 15yrs for just the towers, i mean for everything in total yea. anyways... it look like it took 4-6 years for the towers alone to be built..

the project was approved and construction began in 1966.
The north tower was opened in Dec. 1970 and the south tower in Jan. 1972

Hey, I have a radical proposition. It'll replace all of the square footage and give New Yorkers what they really want! Scroll down for it.

::Gasp:: Who would of thought that instead of bring up those crappy designs, they could just rebuild the towers as they were? Instead of some idiotic park, in which homeless people will sleep in and drug users frequent, they could turn it into a profitable financial center again and still give it a befitting memorial. I don't understand why they didn't at least ask New Yorkers what we wanted, I am positive 90% would want them rebuilt.

I'm dreading looking at that final design, every single day...

oh wonderful, lets make bigger targets than before!!!

it's people like you who would rather stop progress and admit defeat to the terrorists. Just because 1 guy in Afghanistan doesn't like us doesnt mean 300million people should sit in a dark corner and be scared for the rest of our lives.

i agree with you, though im not too satisfied with what is going to be built as the new WTC im rather pleased compared to what other idea's were taken into consideration. There would be nothing better than rebuilding a bigger, better and more modern version of the twins, which Foster's team had done. You can blame that on Larry Silverstien who signed a 100yr lease for the buildings weeks before the attacks, the LMDC and the PA of NY/NJ. They think the demand for office space that high up is too risky. Even in the 60s when they were first built, it took 25yrs after that to completely fill the twins with tennants.

this was Foster's plan

I think a building or buildings at the WTC should reflect our age in time, meaning that they should look to the future from a 21st century perspective while acknowledging the previous WTC and 9-11-01.

These buildings will be looked upon and people can say this is the future whether it be in design and/or commerce. They will represent to the world that the United States will go forward to the future with the same ideals set forth for over 200 years and say to men like Osama who believe that destroying a symbol of commerce would weaken the U.S. that they have failed in their zealous hate to shatter the U.S.

the revised heigh of the tower is 2100-2200ft... currentl the tallest building in the world is in Taipei at 1470ft (20ft taller than the Sears in Chicago)... this will blow them out of the top spot with an additional ~6-700ft!!

  • 1 month later...

a little more detail to the tallest of the 7 buildings going up at the WTC site, not the official design but could "posssibly" (i losely emphasize possibly) be built to a degree

that thing is ugly, the design they chose was according to them best one, but in my opinion i think is just fugly what their doing and what their going to do.

Pretty cool, although they should focus on just like 1 or 2, not 5.

same here... i dont see why they have spent all this time and money and mock up buildings and planning...and they come up with that? its terrible

they should build something similar, but this time taller and stronger

I'm not an American, so I couldn't care any less, but why don't they just rebuild the original complex? This proposal looks ridiculous, and I doubt that glass buildings are a good idea.

thats why im thinking... just re-design and update the old WTC and do that... no one wants some poxy memorial buildings...

The one thing I love is when I'm watching American television and they edit out the WTC as if it never existed.
