Alternative to convertxtodvd

Question

Hi all, i have just tried to use the above mentioned program and left the computer running all night for it to put saw 1-7 on a duel layer disc, the program said "Average" meaning it should of fit but when i woke up this morning i was greeted with "Not enough room on disc, only 7.96 avaliable out of 8gb" or something along them lines. Can anyone recommend a better alterative? Kind of annoying wasting that ime for an error message of not enough space any help/advance is appreciated!

How does "Not enough room in folder" help with "Not enough room on disc, only 7.96 avaliable out of 8gb" a folder is on the hard drive a disc is what goes into the dvd drive :/

Also that post is over 6years old i only rely on info that is 1-2years old unless i need to go back further like with XP or Vista.

Free alternatives:

- DVD Flick

- Freemake Video Converter

- AVStoDVD

- Avi2Dvd from TrustFm

- DeVeDe

- FAVC

Will check flick out name rings a bell

Dual-layer DVDs max out at 7.96GB, or 8152MB. If the output size was 8GB, it was slightly too big to fit on the DVD.

Figure out where you can set the output size of the DVD, set it to something smaller like 7.8GB or 8000MB.

xtodvd does not have many options they are all preset but when i selected the duel layer it said 8100 i just dont see why it would convert saying "yes it fits" then comes to doing it "oh ok you waisted 4hours converting" ive ended up re-converting just with a movie less or two then im putting them on a single layer disc. Tried flick but didnt like the menus.

Thanks anyhow, i guess xtodvd isnt as good as i thought as its inaccurate.

You can choose a custom size, the exact same place where you chose 8100 you can enter an amount of your choosing.

Thanks for that, i just loaded the saved conversion and said media still too small i'll try re-encoding tonight with the settings at 8500 (pre set is 8100) and see if that helps if not i'll just keep with the discs i have now just thought be easier for my mum to have eevrything on one disc instead of multiple. Plus it obviously saves on discs but i have one or two i can spare for now.

people still use disks?

I haven't burnt something to DVD in years! Other than just the data file as a backup or as way to give it to someone.

There are so many video players now that you connect direct to your TV, shoot most TVs today will play files direct off a usb or even stream.

If you give you mom vids quite often I would prob just buy her a player that you can copy the movies to or give her a thumbdrive to plug in, etc. I personally have the popcorn hour A110, which rocks. Got a few years back, but there are plenty today for very cheap prices.

Yeh people still use discs, not everyone is computer minded my mum knows how to do emails, ebay and shopping on her netbook asking her to do something else would require me to write a set of instructions, plus if she brought a media player she would need a nas unit so the costs are mounting up and she can not afford one never mind both so discs are easier. Besides she knows how to use the dvd player lol

I dont live with my mum she lives a few miles away so sending files would be difficult and she only uses a mobile dongle so sending files would be a no go, plus her netbook is limited on hard drive space as its an old one now plus if something went wrong i would need to re-send her all the fiels and if someone said "can you do me a copy" she couldnt she dont have a dvd driver let alone a writer. Maybe when ive sorted my debts out i'll buy her a player and nas unit and send her a usb stick with movies on it every month, until then its discs.

Why does she need a nas unit?? That clearly is not a requirement, any usb drive would work. Or some players allow you to put a disk into the unit, my a110 has a 750GB disk in for example, but then yes I can pull vids off any box on my network with a share, etc. Does not have to be a dedicated nas or anything, even a laptop would work - just share out a folder.

So what you mail her the DVDs? You could still do that, any USER could be trained to copy fileX.avi to a specific location or the USB drive she plugs into her movie player. Clearly not rocket science, nor more complicated than attaching an file to an email, etc.

Or being the nice son you are you drop by to say hey now and then, maybe have sunday dinner, etc. And load her movie player up with the new vids you have for her off your thumbdrive you carry in your pocket ;) You can fit a few movies on even a small 16GB flash, or better yet the portable 100GB+ usb drive, etc.

Shoot my 85 year old mother-in-laws TV play movies right off a thumbdrive you plug in, when we want to show her any vids/photos say of her new great granddaughter we plug in the stick and away it goes.

Sorry but the HOURS you speed converting something to play on an oldschool dvd player is wasted time if you ask me ;) More than likely your reducing quality to get it to fit, it fails or messes up and now vid and audio out of sync say. Or you make a coaster out of one of your blanks, or does not play in her player, etc.

But good luck, I wish I could point out a great tool for what your doing.. But I just do not do that anymore -- I can tell you that converting to flash (flv) the Leawo Video to FLV converter (FREE) works great for putting my granddaughters vids on website for friends and family to stream ;)

The hours i spend converting is while i sleep so its really no big deal her tv does not have a usb port so no thats no good she also wants to keep the movies otherwise its going to be a back and forth situation with the same movies over and over again suppose i could look into a WD TV Live Hub as that has a 1tb drive built in just depends on how the transferring and what not works because as i said she isnt really computer literate emails and ebay is the most she does i had to install her printer for her because she was unable to do it, re-install the os, her phone and when she did have broadband even that after the tech guy said "its easy just do this and that". I suppose when i have looked into the live hub i could always create a bat file that she can run and copies the files over never thought of that till now but like i said depends how it works i know my nas requires a password.

Not everyone can afford new flashy and stylish styled tv's with those features. some, like me, prefer to do it the old fashioned way and upgrade as needed.
