truecrypt , doesn't mount a file container using file key path

Question

hi

i'm under windows w7 and i tried under xp sp3

well with truecrypt a create file container and a file key

well i copied the file key in a folder , to make a test , and i setup the key path

i found that doesn't work , i mean tc doesn't mount the volume

what i did notice is:

if the folder contains only 1 file , tc can mount the container

if the folder contains more then one file , tc doesn't mount it

in the help file , there is that tc should find the key in a folders with another files

what's wrong?

tried 64 and 32bit , same issue

thanks

cheers

Truecrypt doesn't select keyfiles automatically. You must manually add the keyfiles when mounting the encrypted volume.

thanks

but in the guide/help there is

By adding a folder in the keyfile dialog window (click Add Path), you specify a keyfile search path. All files found in the keyfile search path* will be used as keyfiles.

and

Keyfile search paths are especially useful if you, for example, store keyfiles on a USB memory stick that you carry with you. You can set the drive letter of the USB memory stick as a default keyfile search path. To do so, select Settings -> Default Keyfiles. Then click

Add Path, browse to the drive letter assigned to the USB memory stick, and click OK. Now each time you mount a volume (and if the option Use keyfiles is checked in the password dialog window), TrueCrypt will scan the path and use all files that it finds on the USB memory stick as keyfiles.

did you notice , there keyfiles and not keyfile

thanks

I see. Any file can be used as a keyfile, and Truecrypt volumes can be encrypted using two or more keyfiles. The problem you're having is that Truecrypt is using all of the files in that folder as keyfiles rather than just one. So if you want to add a path, you'll have to put the keyfile in a folder by itself.

When creating a new volume or changing the password, you have the option to use keyfiles. From this window, simply add two or more keyfiles, and they'll all be used to encrypt the volume.

However, you really don't need more than one keyfile. One keyfile is strong enough that it's virtually unbreakable.
