Phantom -- IT EXISTS!?

Recommended Posts

This machine will take it's place among the pantheon of failed hardware before it's ever released. The home page is amateurish, the demo video is a bunch of cgi that could have been done in the mid 90's. The logo is ridiculous, the console itself has little aesthetic value, and they are promissing the moon. Sounds like the Atari 7800, Jaguar, 3DO, and Sega 32X will have some competition in the craptastic history of failed consoles.

Sorry, but all that the Phantom is, is a computer... Just an all in one, minus the monitor.  ;)

actually its more akin to a Pocket pc its running windows ebeded

Face it people those pictures are genuine. What SHOULD be up for argue is NOT wether the pics are real but if your ever going to see one on a store shelf

in the photos there is a usb game controller there (the phantoms controller right?) I thought the controllers were going to be wireless or am i wrong about that....

My thoughts abuot this thing are not good  why did they refuse to make a drive on that thing and why did they refuse to make discs for it. Look at it this way walmart makes money off of evey game you go in there and buy for playstation if sony decided to stop making games and have you download them would walmart really want to continue selling something that its only going to make a profit from once?

another thing wrong with the games is how they would be delivered thru broadband and not everyones got broadband that means that a phantom would be useless to you and that measns one less sale and they definatly need all the sales they can get

This device was ill concieved they shoulda thought about it better before they decided to finalize it

thats the one model he probably has, a small form pc probably, he's probably using it to drum up investors. That looks like a demo room. Once he has the money he'll claim bankruptcy just like he has done before.

I would wait till you see an actual model reviewed in magazines or online, probably an in the box shot, before believing in it.

does it actually matter how big it is? it's not like, HUGE (from that picture) so what does it matter? isn't the point of it to play games on, rather than sit and stare at it?

that looks exactly like some of the promotional photos and videos on their site, too. their site says it's expected to be on sale in october.

maybe it's real, maybe it's not. point is, if you dont really know, why would you feel so strongly about your opinion? it's like when a bunch of new longhorn screenshots come out, there's always the crowd that screams "FAKE!!!" all too often to be proven wrong later.

How come everyone knows what a phantom is but I dont?

Can someone post a link to a site that tells you what it is? What I understand from this topic is that it plays all new console games? (ps2, gc, xbox) and its a pc aswell?

Who is developing it?

I dont mind the look of the logo but everytihng else is flawed. Just like alot of people have been saying i highly doubht you will be abled to buy it in a store. I mean maybe an eb or soemting like that but there shoudlnt be enough interest for people to get it. It will probably jsut be sold one by one on a site.

There'd be no playstation if it wasnt for the SNES. Now a CD drive for the SNES was a weird idea, and didnt happen, instead it spawned something revolutionary. The PSOne had little to no competition and ruled all.

Yes it is big and bulky, but perhaps it will evolve into something else.

I personally dont know why people have got a bad attitude towards the Phantom. I can only presume that this is due to ignorance about what it will actually do.

Ive seen comments about the official website, and how cruddy it is, personally, I think it is fine.

The head of the company has had a few setbacks - so ****ing what? Again, personally, in my most humble opinion, I hope that the Phantom is a success so that you all *edit* regret it /edit !!

Why exactly wouldnt there be interest? We dont know the full potential of what it can do yet ! We'll see it in stores if it is made, if it isnt, no big whoop - None of us have lost anything.

In a hundred years, no-one will care - so *edit* wait till there is more news on it instead of bitching over speculation.

Edits: Post editted so that it doesnt send me straight to hell, do not pass go, do not collect ?200

Forster: Chill dude, no need to hope people die horrible deaths.

The head of company is pretty much a known fraudster, not just had setbacks. If you have the software, do a check on him, it shows he is not really reputable.

I have no real problem with the site except that it tells you absolutely nothing. It is all forward looking statements, artist impressions, nothing about what actually IS happening. At best, Phantom is just a concept at the moment.

Hey, I'd love ot to be true, and go through some real development to become a system based around a PC, but it's hugely unlikely. The PC is not really suited to the task.

Oh, why tell people to grow the **** up? Thats childish within itself dude!

this will simply fail. and how can it play other consoles games??? ffs it has no cd/dvd drive!!!! they would have to be ported and then downloaded. yea GOOD IDEA! im sure.

this thing wil flop bigger than a donkey's dick! (if it reaches production)

External drive and custom software - no big deal, still not a reason that it will flop.

It is capable of accepting external drives, so that's what I would do.

  • 2 weeks later...

those pictures seem pretty real to me, being it game from a source that has other sorta rare news. like screen shots of doney kong konga. is it just me or does it look like a ripped off darkstar logo? this must be a ploy to lure skateboarders in. i can see it now "tony hawk special phantom edition"

i wrote an email to darkstar about this matter :)

heres the email:

This may be of interest to you, a company by the name of infinium labs the makers of a future video game company have what looks like to be very simliar to yours. There website is phantom.net and infiniumslabs.com, Im not sure if you want to do anything about it but just remember who found it.

It's just you...

That new pic has me wondering about controllers, will it have any or will just be used with a keyboard?
