Mr. Black
Hey guys & girls, I have ZoneAlarm 4 Pro running on my main system as of right now. On my laptop and mini-server I have Kerio PFW going. I have noticed that Kerio has alot smaller memory footprint and seems to do a decent enough job, and has some good looking configurability options for fine-tuning. Now, i'd like some advice here (or opinions). Which one do you think is better, ZA or KPFW? I'd like to switch to KPFW on my main system because it has a smaller footprint -- I just did the same thing by changing from WinZip to PicoZip. Thanx! ;)
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted September 19, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 19, 2003 Kerio is better than Zonealarm so switch away. The nice thing about kerio compared to ZA, besides the lower memory footprint, is that you can actually go in and edit the rules for each application, which you can't do on ZA. So if you wanted to further your outlook express security you could just allow ports 23(SMTP) and 110(POP3), then outlook can't load webpages or download cookies from spam mail that link to thier site from thier emails. me101 Veteran Posted September 19, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 19, 2003 Actually ZA Pro will allow you to do this, under Program Controls - Programs tab - select Outlook Express and then go to options button (bottom right). I've always found ZA Pro to be excellent, I tried Kerio (and most other) but I just like ZA Pro, just personal preference I guess.

cbosdell
kerio anyday. I tried Zonealarm and HATED IT! A firewall shouldnt have a GUI that takes up the whole screen and uses a lot of memory. I am sorry but it was just awful.
M$ Agent #2
Ive used all the firewalls in existance and my favorite is Kerio its small does what I want and once its set up I never have to worry about it. Although I did have to update it like a week ago as some one was crashing it with some sort hack :)
