windows installer cleanup "msicuu.exe" I have that but do not have msicuu2.exe -- you sure that is a valid file name? I will do a bit of search for it.

Ok quick search and first link

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

"it sometimes damaged other components installed on the computer. Because of this, the tool has been removed from the Microsoft Download Center."

So why is it you think you need this file?

Yup there it is, simple google and bam right there on softpedia to download, but does not remove the fact that MS removed it because it can break ****.. So still wonder why he thinks he needs this exact tool?

Microsoft doesn't always do things for the best interest of techs. I have had a couple of things that would not remove easily without the use of that, but nothing in the past year or so.

It's useful when Microsoft's lousy Windows Installer messes something up it won't let you re-run the installer for whatever you're trying to install again, or refuses to let something you're trying to uninstall actually uninstall.

I've used it a bunch of times.

Fix it repairs different microsoft errors not failed uninstalls of random origin. Msi cleanup can uninstall items that aren't microsoft related but I guess people were misusing it. If you know how to navigate the registry as well as documents and settings and program files you should be able to do the same or better than the microsoft uninstall utility....or if you know how to use google properly there may even be a uninstall tool from the manufacturer that will cleanly uninstall their app that doesn't use add/remove programs. Sometimes there is an uninstaller created, sometimes there is a manual uninstall process, and sometimes you have to get the shovel out and dig yourself.

Ok let me reword the question -- yes guys I am fully 100% aware of what you would use the tool for. But this does not tell me why the OP thinks he needs it? Is it a specific software he wants to clear? Which one - then its quite possible there is either as sc302 points out a clean up tool from the maker, many antivirus software has these tools. Or might be as simple a remove of reg key?

Without understanding why the OP thinks he needs this tool, its impossible to point him to other solutions to the problem, etc.

I really didn't think it mattered why I needed it at the time.

and in my original post i edited it to say. "I think i just found it.. "

and I did.

I did Google it. I keep getting redirected to crap. and i even searched for it on MS site.

I was very tired frustrated at the time. I have been working 11 to 12 hour days for the past 3 weeks. and i was tired of looking for it.

I was just hoping someone would be kind enough to just throw it out there or give me a direct link or something. if i though i had to explain myself every time i needed a file that i could not find i probable would never ask.

and to have people just say "hey i used Google it and got it right away" doesn't help either.

Someone had an issue where they FURAR-ed their office install. they had an issue with 2007 the uninstalled it. they couldn't find the disk to reinstall it so they installed 2003. well that did not work so someone lent them 2010 and that did not work either.

so i got there and uninstalled everything using REVO. I went to install My office 2007 and kept getting an error 1935. in researching this someone on some stupid forum said they had the same issue they ran that MS cleanup software and it fixed it.

so I was just giving it a try because we tried all kind of stuff and nothing worked.

We finally found his original copy of office 2007. we installed it and it worked but his copy did not have outlook which is what originally screwed up in the first place.

so then we installed my enterprise copy over his copy and just installed the outlook and them everything was great.

so there is the whole story. I hope everyone is happy.

And that is why i was looking for the file.

happy, or not it doesn't matter...search terms are where it is at. once you have the right search terms the answer is in your hands within 30 seconds.

the answer was given for you to have it next time, and you can perform the search yourself so you aren't spending 3-4 hours looking for it.

So why did you not just uninstall the software with the built in uninstalls? Why did you use some 3rd party tool REVO?

Also the cleanup tool for office was replaced wit the fixit tools for the specific suites

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Did you try those??

The specific error you report points to this MS article -- did you try that vs some idiot on some forums advice?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926804

Error message when you try to install an Office program: "Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component"
