NumLock on Startup?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering.

I have a startup login screen for WinXP Pro, and my password for my account has numbers in it. Instead of typing them out above the keyboard, I use the NumPad...you know, the area to the right of your keyboard. However, WinXP does not default turn on NumLock and so it won't work unless every time I press the NumLock button before typing in my password.

I've set my BIOS to enable NumLock, but WinXP disables it as Windows is loading..help..!

Not sure, but take a look at this registry setting:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelKeyboard

Look at the following value:

"InitialKeyboardIndicators"

Does this equal zero? If so, try setting it to 2. 2 is currently how mine is set.

i think if you turn your numlock key on enought after you boot... xp will eventually remember to turn it on, on boot.

you could also just set it in your bios and then never have to mess with it again.

He just said XP turns it off automatically. And I don't think XP would just say "oh he turns it on a lot so i'm going to do that from now on". Take a look at these:

He is right where he says that XP will realise that you keep pressing num lock and automatically put it on for you. I have a M$ internet keyboard and after about a week of putting in my password with num lock on, XP started to put num lock on when it booted. Nice touch I think - but surely if XP is watching even stupid little things like this (god knows what else) this will seriously slow down the O$?? Also its not much help if you format regularly - it will have to learn again!
