Netflix on Linux

Question

They support ChromeOS, which does not support MS Silverlight, but they don't support Linux, which at least has moonlight (which probably runs in ChromeOS as well) and Google Chrome. I mean, if they're going for market share, how many people seriously use ChromeOS compared to those of us who have been running desktop Linux for years?

Now I just feel insulted, and there's not even a link on the website to send them an e-mail asking about it.

haha... complain to Netflix.... its due to the DRM....

I have heard there is a way to make it run using wine but i am not sure if it will work 100%.

I'd heard the same thing, that it was due to a DRM technology in Silverlight that wasn't part of its open source counterpart, Moonlight. But if ChromeOS doesn't support Silverlight, how can they support it? I'm not complaining against ChromeOS, I'm sure the 3 people who actually have a Chromebook are delighted that they can watch Netflix. But if Netflix can allow their product to operate on one operating system that doesn't support Silverlight, and in turn its DRM capabilities, why can't they support other operating systems that don't support MS Silverlight?

I'm probably going to give them a phone call. I hate calling these big companies though because you always get the tier 1 technician who doesn't know anything and will put you on hold for two hours and give you the run-around.

One of the trade-offs you make when you don't run a leading brand OS. Nothing against Linux (I like it in theory) but support for such services will be minimal :(

Solutionworkaround... download the ChromeOS nightly from hexxeh, install VirtualBox or VMWare on your Linux host, and then use Netflix through it.

You might as well do that with Windows or OSX... (If they've figured out a way to make virtual Hackintoshes.)
