You dont need the title in the top bar when you have it inside the address bar. why duplication of information? keep the title bar empty. it keeps it neat allows for easy grab for moving the folder around.

Looks good. Much better than MS's.

The new design also allows for more items on the screen, even with the ribbon open.

And for those that aren't fans - minimise, uses Quick Access Toolbar (he's moved the toolbar out of the title bar here, you can put it up there if you want)

Umm , that bar below called as Detail's pane is too large out there , plus , i turn it off. And then again if you are NOT IN LIBRARIES , u get extra few px.

BTW has anyone seen other OSes?

BIggest problem with your concept is the title bars for the tabs being stuck in that tiny area on the left - it's going against all of what Microsoft are trying to achieve. Ease of discoverability, easy of use. That menu doesn't cut, they're going to have to be on top from a usability stand point. At which point, you've then removed the group names from the ribbon, and left yourself with... a ribbon with a slightly nicer colour scheme?

Apart from the styling of your visual skin, your actual usability design is worse off than Microsoft's. Fine for powerusers maybe, not fine for the market of everyone, that Microsoft is trying to appeal too. <img>

As posted it looks like they started the copy interface with that simple grey text flat square boxes and went to same baby blue with glossy boxes and wasted space.

At first I hated the ribbon in Office 2010. Then as I started using it more, it made more sense as far as why things are where they are. I think I'm a lot more efficient now with the ribbon than I ever was with the old menu system. It's a step forward, but here's my concern... I thought Windows 8 was moving toward a Metro UI in everything. I saw a screenshot of Outlook with a Metro UI (not sure if it was real or a mockup) and it looked pretty decent. I think a ribbon in Explorer would need to be pretty simple, with the option to have a more complex ribbon for the people who want it.

MS just needs to stay consistent in all of its products. I like what they're trying to do, but I just hope theres more thought put into it by the time of release.

That's the default size of the details pane in Windows 7. Which has now been removed from the bottom in 8, and put on the right (to make better use of screen real estate as most monitors are wide screen these days)

that is exactly what i think.

Going to metro with WP7.. with the Touch interface of Windows 8 but for the aero they are making it more and more bubbly and bloated :s

if they can strike a balance and actually make us feel a connection between aero and metro. thats a big big win!..

i can bet if they do that. Their devices will be a hit! not that they wont be otherwise :)

specially tablets.

The new Office 2010 is fantastic. And it feels odd calling it new, since it has been out for a while. You seem to very particular about the UI consistency, so I very strongly suggest that you upgrade to Office 2010. The interface improvements alone

should make you leap at it. Then their's the deep integration with Office Web Apps, which is sweet.

And don't be fooled into thinking that this is just minor upgrade. I quote Ed Bott here:

Judging by the Talkback comments I?ve seen in various posts here and in quick-and-dirty reviews elsewhere, I know there?s a lot of misconception about what?s in Office 2010. I?ve read a few comments that dismissed the changes in this edition as superficial eye candy, hardly worth the upgrade. And I understand how easy it would be to come to that conclusion if you simply poke at Word and Outlook for a couple hours (or even a couple days), and then fire up the other Office apps for a quick lap around the track. With that sort of superficial look, it?s easy to pass judgment on Office as too big, too complicated, too expensive, too old. (Amusingly, most reviewers I?ve read find some pet feature that doesn?t work exactly as they would have designed it and then harp on that for the bulk of the review. It?s as predictable as the sunrise.)

Honestly, I wish Office 2010 was a minor upgrade. If it were, I would have been done with this book about six weeks ago and I?d be sitting on a tropical beach sipping mai tais right now. But the reality is different: Office 2010 is a surprisingly deep, thoughtfully designed, well-engineered collection of software programs. The more I dig, the more I like the small but useful touches that the Office design team has wrought. That?s not just my opinion, either. I?ve heard variations on that sentiment from dozens of correspondents, including a few who are Office skeptics.

Here is the link to the Office 2010 review, which I suggest you read; http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/office-2010-a-deeper-dive/2042

No, I don't believe it's final either. It doesn't have a tint of Metro. It's absolutely dirty. It is just a concept preview. We'll see the final design preview at B8.
