As mentioned above, try repairing the icon cache. If it still doesn't work, then check to see the icon associated with HTM and HTML file types. Go into My Computer, go to the Tools menu > folder options > File Types tab > in the list of extensions find htm and html. click on the advanced button.... and then you should see the icon associated with the file. At this point you can change the file that the icon is pulled from. The default icons can be found in shell32.dll or iexplore.exe

It is still there :( I tried using TweakUI (the one that comes with WinXP Powertoys) and i reassociated the icons for htm and html. Neither of them worked. Any more suggestions?

I do technical support for an ISP in Canada.

Couple things to try...

Pull up IE, at the top click on tools, internet options.

1. Delete the temporary internet files and all offline content.

2. Click on settings. Use at the most 50mb for temp internet files.

3. Restore defaults in the advanced tab.

If that link was added to your favorites or something, it might be the favicon was deleted

Hey,

I had the same problem with IE in Win98SE 2 years ago.

:dead: The problem was with URL.dll

:right: Solution: copy a new URL.dll from somebody else

Good Luck

It says it cannot be copied because it is being used by another person or program.

Any other ideas?

What I mean is that you should close everything you can in the Processes tab in Task manager.

that was not a good idea. I ended a process, svchost.exe, i think, and it said "shutting down in 1 minute, save all work and log off, etc."

Someone please help :(

Not sure if this has been said, if so sorry.

You could goto Microsofts website and reinstall Internet Explorer, or just repair it.

In the registry these following entries refer to the icons

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOThttpDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOThttpsDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTInternetShortcutDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTfileDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTgopherDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOThtmlfileDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTrloginDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTtelnetDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTtn3270DefaultIcon]

I think

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOThttpDefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOThttpsDefaultIcon]

are the 1's that refer to the icons for that icon of yours..

It should be something like url.dll,0 I think

I cannot tell you because I hate the blue shadded icon so I changed all of mine to C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe,15 which is the old icon in 5.5 with the black shading
