XChat Aqua / IRC Clients

Hello fellas :)

I'm asking this question for a friend who bought recently a mac with lion on it.

She is looking for a IRC client, that allows a scripting close to his old mIRC. I know they are diferent, no need to mention that, but aparently she ran a script on mirc to identify is huge nicknames database, and he is looking for a irc client for her mac to do the same thing. I know xchat supports scripting funtionality, I even know she could just use Wine for that but doesn't want to. So, I know its kind of a vague question, but anybody has sugestions for this issue? She just wants a script-supportable IRC client that allows scripting close to mirc.

Thank's in advance, and i hope im posting this in the right place :)

You're lucky: Someone revived the X-Chat Aqua project under the name X-Chat Azure. The download is available on the Mac App Store.

You're welcome. Mind you: X-Chat Azure is still one of the uglier IRC clients on OS X (imho). YMMV.

So in your suggestion, have you got any idea for a scriptable IRC client?

You could take a look at Colloquy. It's free as well and supports AppleScript.

Colloquy and Linkinus are probably the best IRC clients for OS X. They're both AppleScript-able, so she can probably achieve a similar end.
