uggh! this is so embarrassing! i've gone from sixer00@aol.com and then we got rid of aol, to rhcp575@netscape.net and then i got spammed beyond belief, so i went to wdm120@yahoo.com, then suddenly it stopped sending outgoing messages, so i tried the new netscape and got will1394@netscape.net, but now i get 100 spam's per day on it, so i got will1394@hotmail.com, and that wouldn't send messages and the measely 2mb account filled up like every other day! i hate this! are there any solutions? any suggestions for a free mail client? looking for pop3

thx

stop bumping your thread. the reason you are getting spammed is because you are giving out your email address. have 2 emails. one you dont give to anyone but personal friends and one you use to sign up for services online.

Your problem may lay with your ISP. A lot of ISP's now a day are blocking ANY SMTP server (the kind of server used to send email) except for their own SMTP server. Contact your ISP and see if that is the case, and if it is, just change your email settings to use their ISP for sending emails, and it should work fine

I think the last poster is a bit confused.

If the ISP blocked any SMTP server but their own, then you would only be able to mail other people on that ISP, but no other hosts. Thats crazy, and frankly rubbish.

I believe fowen actually ment most ISPs dont allow relaying to the SMTP server from any non local host. Ie: you have to be connected to the ISP to send via their SMTP server. Thats known as running a secure smtp server, and not an open relay ;)

not true... I'm using Lycos' pop3 service at the moment. Its fast and reliable, and doesn't get horribly spammed beyond belief.

I was not confused. Cox HSI (at least in phoenix, for their home users) blocks any SMTP traffic except traffic from their own server (smtp.west.cox.net). YOU HAVE to use THEIR SMTP server (smtp.west.cox.net) to send any messages or the message will come back as undeliverable. They do not allow you to use another SMTP server (lets say smtp.neowin.net) to send email. It cuts down the amount of spammers they have on their system, because people cannot use open relay SMTP servers, they have to use SMTP.west.cox.net which monitors traffic and can stop people from sending out thousands of emails a second.
