Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted September 7, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted September 7, 2011 How is it ot impressive though? Because they put men into a giant rocket, that didn't blow up btw, flew them into outer space, without dying might I add, then they orbited the moon, landed on a giant floating rock above our earth, where they successfully walked on the surface. THAT, is why it's impressive.
SirEvan
Not wishing to be flippant, but there are people in the world who will never be convinced of anything. Unless you take them there - and even then no doubt all they would say is 'Meh! so what?!? It is literally a waste of time even trying. Like religious people or apple fans :)
Nerd Rage
Examples of such blotches please. This is what I am referring to. And here is NASA's zoomed in version, that appears to be a "cleaned up" version of the same picture. Teebor already mentioned that it could just be reflections. My question is though, does NASA have cleaner photos that they aren't releasing and that is where they got the zoomed (cleaner) version, or did they use image editing software to clean up the black areas? My question is though, does NASA have cleaner photos that they aren't releasing and that is where they got the zoomed (cleaner) version, or did they use image editing software to clean up the black areas? NASA uses image analysis software that has advanced unsharp mask and convolving filters to bring out hidden details. This is the same kind of s/w used in the analysis of spysat & space probe video and still images, forensic science imagery, digital mammograms, MRI's, CAT scans etc. etc. One of the best of the NASA spinoffs. Fact is, this kind of imaging s/w was invented by NASA and the DoD and was released to the medical and science communities to aid their work. Rooster69
You should be doing your OWN research, including checking your spelling. What did the camera designer from Hasselblad, say about several of the alleged photos the astronauts took ? Apparently you missed that. Ahhhh, Myth Busters proved the landings were real, nuff said! DocM
That would be a good idea,, put a small Rover with a cam up there, $500 and a person can drive the thing around for half an hour. That would be awsome. Or at least a web cam with view of earth on horizon or something Commercial & private efforts to the rescue, again. At least one of the Google Lunar X-Prize entrants (Astrobotic - Carnegie Mellon Univ.) is a rover that would as one of its possible mission profiles approach an Apollo site with a HD 3D video camera and still cameras, streaming as it travels. They can't approach too closely as the Apollo sites are historical and protected from being disturbed, but not so much that a telephoto lens couldn't document it. Launches will be on a SpaceX Falcon 9. http://www.googlelunarxprize.org/ http://astrobotic.net/ PITTSBURGH, PA ? February 6, 2011 ? Astrobotic Technology Inc. today announced it has signed a contract with SpaceX to launch Astrobotic?s robotic payload to the Moon on a Falcon 9. The expedition will search for water and deliver payloads, with the robot narrating its adventure while sending 3D video. The mission could launch as soon as December 2013.The Falcon 9 upper stage will sling Astrobotic on a four-day cruise to the Moon. Astrobotic will then orbit the moon to align for landing. The spacecraft will land softly, precisely and safely using technologies pioneered by Carnegie Mellon University for guiding autonomous cars. The rover will explore for three months, operate continuously during the lunar days, and hibernate through the lunar nights. The lander will sustain payload operations with generous power and communications. ?The mission is the first of a serial campaign,? said Dr. William ?Red? Whittaker, chairman of Astrobotic Technology and founder of the university?s Field Robotics Center. ?Astrobotic?s missions will pursue new resources, deliver rich experiences, serve new customers and open new markets. Spurred further by incentives, contracts, and the Google Lunar X PRIZE, this is a perfect storm for new exploration.? > Astrobotic
Soulsiphon
Shame the manned landings hadn't come 40 years later. The unmistakable "BOOYA" scratched out on the surface in overly huge letters by someone's space boot would have surely silenced any die-hard skeptics. :)
HawkMan
I'd say the laser reflectors are far better proof ;)
mudslag
What conspirators have to remember is that this all happened during the space race, you know with the Soviet Union during the middle of the cold war. This conspiracy is not much different then the one about Obama being born in Kenya. Just like the GOP could have the power to CRUSH the Dems over such a large conspiracy, the Soviets could have embarrassed the hell out of the U.S. over the moon landings. During the cold war, a huge embarrassment like that would have been politically devastating.
