Aimutation or DeadAIM...

Recommended Posts

I prefer aimutation, as far as I know it does everything deadaim does, and more, and its a little cheaper, plus it allows the use of skins, and AIM is very ugly without them.. here is a screen shot of my AIM:

there isnt that many plugins yet, none that are really useful, but there are a few that are kinda nice to have.. buddyamp to control winamp through AIM, buddycam, which allows u to right click in an IM and put webcam pictures in it straight from your webcam, buddynews is kinda nice too, u can click on buddy news and get newsfeeds(inculding neowin news), those are the only ones I have, but I am sure some good ones will eventually come out, deadaim is alot more popular than aimutation right now, but aimutation is growing, disney even made a skin for aimutation from the lion king, and Im not sure how upgrading works on deadaim, as far as I know you have to pay for every version? im not sure though. on aimutation u get 2 free upgrades, so for 5$ u get 4 upgrades, plugins and skins dont take up download credits. you can also pay 20$ and get unlimited upgrades and support. plus downloads of the alphas and betas. I payed the 20$ to support the project, but 20$ isnt a big deal to me, it may be a bigger deal to you, so its really your choice, only thing I can say is aimutation has more features, and more are being added constantly.. I havnt seen many updates to deadaim lately.

It doesn't really matter that AIMutation will cost more down the road. The current version of AIMutation has everything DeadAIM has plus more, so even if u bought it just for the current version, it'd be better already.

talk when you are away is so stupid. it keeps on putting the away mesasge every time you talk.

to fix this, change the AIM (not DeadAIM) option for away messages to be inserted in your personal profile only

If aimutation had the icon on the tabs that shows you when a user is typing or has sent a mesage like deadaim, I would use it. right now the tab image only shows when an image has been sent and I don't like that.

heh why not use aim? I rather keep them seperately for their own reasons (like windows messenger and connecting remotely). I'm fine with running three clients. I tried trillian for a little bit but didn't care for it.

I'm gonna try out Aimunation :)

Wait...So you don't know if someone sent you a new message? I would have to look at each individual tab to see if there is a new message?

Yeah, you do know when someone has sent a message. An exclamation image appears on the tab, but as for when a person is typing, it does not tell you that as of now. There was a feature request for that though, so chances are it will be put in at some time.

This is a discussion in choosing between two add-ons to the AIM client, not an alternative client. And besides, I don't use Trillian because I like all the features that a client has to offer plus not having to dish out whatever the amount of Trillian is. AIMutation is like 3 bucks for an add-on and it's all I need for AIM while I have Messenger Plus for MSN.

Why not just use Trillian? It uses less resources anyways...

because its cluttered, buggy, and the features dont work as well as they do in the real clients, also, not everyone uses all the messenger services, if you only use AIM, why use a program that supports 5 different services.

Well, I need Windows Messenger for Remote Connecting to PCs. Other than that, I'm way too used to AIM and MIRC. I did try Trillian for a bit of time but never really got into it. Does Trillian gives you abilities like the ones in Aimutation?

I pretty much fall into the same category of IM client user as you do. I'm just too familiar with AIM. I think I'll try out Messenger just so I can connect to folks and use the webcam feature since my logitech cam should be arriving sometime this week.
