Health Informatics masters program

Question

I'm enrolling in an MHI program and they prefer candidates with some programming background, but NOT mandatory (i come from a health science background, btw). However, I want to learn a language before I begin, which language should I start with?

I can easily learn as I played around with asp.net, mysql, ms sql, and php on my free time before. HI mostly deals with electronic health records, mobile applications, maybe, android or iOS, not sure, patient safety, pharmacy applications, etc.

Any advice? :-D

oops! just realized this is the wrong forum...should be Programming or General....

Why not talk to one of your instructors or current/past students of the curricula you intend to study? I've finally relented and gone back to finish my Masters in Computer Science and while it's fairly open-ended as far as what languages are available to us in solving problems, doing research or what have you, my first and best source of information is a quick email to a prospective Professor or just talking with someone in the pertinent department.

Best of luck!

Edit: go with the Java or C# IMNSHO :D Given your experience, this shouldn't be too much of a stretch and either are very real-world friendly!

Great!

But then Java or C#?

If I want to create an app to work both on mobile (android) and computer, should I go for Java?

Java for sure. Besides, once you get a handle on Java, C# is not a big stretch.
