OrangeSoul
Chicks to break with country scene The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a country music band any more. Violinist Martie Maguire told Spiegel magazine: "We don't feel part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more." She said she was disappointed other country singers didn't back up the Dixie Chicks in their criticism of George W Bush's politics on Iraq. "A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it," Maguire complained. "The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen." Going home empty-handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide to break with the scene, Maguire said. "Instead, we won three Grammys against much stronger competition. "So we now consider ourselves part of the big Rock 'n' Roll family." http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_821707.html?menu=

Digital.K
Well you have to blame radio for that. In this country where freedom of speech is a right, they were basically shunned and locked out of doing what they do best, all because Natalie spoke her piece.I mean, to deprive people of a living for expressing opinions is anything if not un-American. And if you're a music artist, no radio play means no money. I think they will emerge stronger and better, they have the talent.

M$ Agent #2
Perhaps they should have worded what they said a little different ? Freedom of speech does not mean some one has to listen to you.... And when your in the public eye sometimes its best not to get involved in politics ;)

Nova_rock
-feelings about the band a genere aside- they feel they deserve to change their genere or style of music over politics?!?? i mean really what kind of freaking statement is that? its pretty egotistic too, we are going to change our style because we feel that others in our genere didnt automatically agree with us, and that our fans didnt blindly agree with us so now were going to blindly find a place were our political views are accepted and then try to make that kind of music. xpablo
Like I thought they were a band, you know musicians. But lately these damsels or B*tches been turning their tune towards politics. Next thing ya know George and Jeb Bush be starting their own country band. Last thing I want is dumbass Musicians and Actors start griping about politics, Hey the only thing I expect to hear from you "artists" is your music and or seeing you act in a production, not stand up on a pedistal or stage and preaching your political beliefs to others. I got my own beefs about politicains around the world, yet you dont see me griping and bitching @ work about politics. These Dumbass Bimbo B*tches not singing country anymore I know cause they'se be signing politics.

Just because you are free to express your feelings does not mean that you are free from the repricussions of those statements. They are two very different ideas that many don't seem to realize are seperate. For example: I could freely make racially discriminatory remarks, but that wouldn't mean that there would be no bad outcomes from it.
semifamous
Wait a minute, you mean I'm going to have to actually HEAR them on the radio now? I don't like the sound of this..... Can't they just quit instead?

m4ch1n3g0d
Country radio is the worst thing EVER! Its all so comercial and cheese. Its horrible. Country radio refuses to play anything that is even slightly good about country. What do i know though, i dont like country music much. There are a few artists i think rock, but the rest is emotionless cheese. I hate the "christian patriotic country singer" thing. Nothing worse than that. Um yea if you don't like country music then why would you like country radio, and how would you know what is good about country? I love it when people say that a certain type of music is stupid, or they describe it in a negative way when its not even something they listen to regularly. If you don't listen to it then you obviously don't know. Drawing conclusions based on stereotypes and opinions you hear from others is pure ignorance. It's like me saying "Wow I think INSERT COUNTRY NAME HERE is a really stupid country and a terrible place to live!" without ever having visited the country once. People need to learn to think for themselves and form educated opinions. Stop being a sheep.
Wolvereen
I am not a fan at all, but I actually feel bad for them... It cracks me up when some Americans say "If you don't like the way our country is run, you can leave!!!" I am American myself, I don't always agree with our leaders, but I believe in respecting the position in spite of the person. Regardless, our country was FOUNDED on the idea that we could speak our mind, and voice dissent against politcal leaders without fear of reprimand. While its true that many good men & women died for our right to live free, they also dies for our right to disagree! I find it sad that some "patriots" get so mad at people just voicing their opinion. To me it just goes to show how small minded a lot of the fans of the Dixie Chicks were when they reacted so negatively (burning records, banning them from radio, etc). Hopefully this will not kill their career, and they will find a new audiance....
OrangeSoul
well we have Bruce Springsteen who is a true patriot, singing great songs about America itself, he supported the Dixie Chicks and he is immune to critisism so im glad he did

Regardless, our country was FOUNDED on the idea that we could speak our mind, and voice dissent against politcal leaders without fear of reprimand. That's ironic coming from someone in California. People are speaking their minds against Gray Davis, yet now have to wait it out while the courts decide whether to hold a recall or not. Costing precious electricity and tax payers dollars that are few and far between in your state. I think the whole point of this is is that they should have kept their mouths shut, period. They're here to do one thing, and that's to sing music. If you want to go into politics, get a poly sci degree and head that route. Just because you are huge superstars doesn't give you the right to mouth off on sh*t you don't know. I for one think they deserve all the crap that they received. I'm all for Free Speech, but I feel that there will be some huge problems coming on anyone who belittles politicians or questions what they do, esp. after 9/11.
