chuckyboy81070
i make it a habit to check on processes currently running on my computer by using the task manager. call me paranoid! :D anyway... today i've noticed something on the processes tab that i've never noticed before called logonuiX.exe. does anyone know what that is? when i kill it, i stays there. no warning about it being crucial to the OS, even though it's listed as being run by the SYSTEM under the user column. it doesn't dissappear from the list and reappear. it just doesn't leave the list, so i'm assuming it still running. i've looked in the startup, services and other options that msconfig.exe shows, but i can't find it there. anyone know what that is? lance

chuckyboy81070
I mentioned that it wont turn off and that it is listed as SYSTEM in the user column. ;) i did a search for the file and it's in both the system32 directory and the prefech directory, so that's a little comforting...but WHAT is it? lance

chuckyboy81070
3nd3r, yeah, i just did that. it seems to be kosher. Microsoft and all that biz. but i still am curious as to what it could be. my original thoughts on it being related to remote desktop may have been wrong. lance
y_notm
probably some logonui u downloaded. some person made it, you downloaded it, forgot about it. the author forgot to change the version info, and therefore it looks like its made by MS. by the looks of the name it looks like an OSX logon screen. 3nd3r
Yeah, I just did a search for it and found it. It was made my Microshaft but i have no Idea what it is actually for. I have never actually seen it used. -=3nd3r=-
chuckyboy81070
y_notm, i'm running the default logon screen at the moment. i have been for a while. besides, the file i'm curious about is called "logonuiX.exe" not logonui.exe. i would assume that a file called "logonuiX.exe" would not work as a logon screen. but i could be wrong there. in any case, if you are running XP Pro, do you have a file called "logonuiX.exe" in your system32 and prefech directories? lance
