UPGRADE DAY!

Here are a few more issues I've run across:

  • Smilies don't appear to be working this morning and I can see broken image placeholders in their place.
  • The Ignore all signatures option (accessed by clicking on the cross that appears when you hover over a signature) isn't working. Four squares flash when you select the option but the signatures are still visible.
  • The editor doesn't resize in IE8 when you click and drag at the bottom right hand corner of editor box.

Theme is nice but not dark enough, like others have said, too much white space. Also, I used to have avatars and signatures disabled, but now I can see everyones avatar after the upgrade and can't find any option to change it under settings.

IPB removed the ability to not show avatars.

I think you'll find due to the fact that everything is AJAX you can only do one edit at a time on the same page, if that was the case, I had that on the test board as well.
This will work great on my text terminal.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

So why did you upgrade to the new IPB? I mean which features of it did you want?

This new IPB is really laggy when scrolling pages, even when I play a 1080p video on youtube and scroll down the page it's less laggy than Neowin when scrolling. But it isn't even using any of my CPU. Just poor code on IPB's part?

EDIT:// I've determined that it only laggs when using the touchpad on my Notebook if I grab the scroll bar on the right of the window it's smooth. But this is the only website this happens to.. is IPB trying to centre scrolling on posts when sliding up and down the page or something?

Seems like every version they take more stuff away. Now you can't turn off Avatars, last version you couldn't find your own previous posts. Maybe I should start visiting a forum with vBullitin or something because IPB is quickly becoming unusable.

I don't experience this scroll lag people talk about, tested on three different machines with way different specs.

I've noticed the scroll lag this morning on this PC I'm working on running IE8 on XP. As Vice said, dragging the browser's scrollbar is smooth but using the wheel on my mouse is slow. It's only a problem here at Neowin.

Why are you using a Dino-IE =P?

I'm using the latest version of Chrome and it still happens. Try scrolling on a laptop trackpad/touchpad or a mouse scroll wheel. Lags. Try using the bar on the right of the page, smooth.

Another fail is that you can only show post stars OR a badge, so for now I removed the generic Member badge.

I'll be looking into community add-ons for the ability to remove avatars, but as you can understand we want to iron out other issues first.

Loving the look. Like always some fine tuning is needed. I'm sure that will be fixed soon enough.

White is a good color for lots of text. So, you spammers, time to start to actually post some content for a change :p

Damn whiners.

Every time Neowin gets updated people WHINE so hard its boring. If you dont like it you have two options, put up with it or leave, crying about it wont change anything.

Fair enough but there is a line and 99.9% of people whining in this thread have crossed it, constructive criticism is fine but its boring seeing the childish attitude of people who feel they have some kind of entitlement.

We're taking everything on board and there will be a few changes :)

I like the new aesthetic and like the front page it's much more fresh looking.

I think the only thing that needs real work is the whitespace. There are elements that seem squished together where they should not be and other elements with huge expanses for no good reason. Needs tweaks as already stated.

The ads on the main index are placed horribly imo. They should be horizontal ads, not square ads at the side of the listings.

The index page looks like a horrible squished mess as it stands.

Damn whiners.

I've only noted a single real whiner so far.

Edit- Why is my user picture being used in place of my avatar? :s

Go read back a few pages then with the melodrama "omg this sucks if it aint broke dont fix it blah blah blah"

Oh you're actually right.

LOL

Well, I honestly think it's an overall improvement but the more I use it, the more tweaking it seems to need. I like the direction it's going in but it's probably less complete at this point than the new recent front page redesign when it was first launched.
