Argh Stoopid Microsoft

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Yesterday I installed the latest updates from Microsoft (Security Update, December 17, 2001) and today my local network (two shared PCs) doesnt work - nothing else has been added/changed on either PC.

If the PC A (the XP machine is up) it runs fine, if PC B (Win98) is up it runs fine, but if they are both up PC A continuously lockups and neither can ping the other.

Before this they were both working perfectly.

Any ideas

Anyone else had problems after this update

OK After trying the help I am still having problems but at least I have narrowed it down :)

The XP system constantly locks up now when the two PCs are joined in a peer-to-peer lan. THis would lead me to beleive something has gone screwy with the NIC, so I have.

Unistall the card

Reinstalled the card

Still with the same result - lockups.

The card itself is a Netgear FA310TX 10/100 and I have had no problems with it in this environment until now.

I was wondering if it was an IRQ conflict, but nice XP wont let me change the IRQ (the use automatic settings box is greyed out)

Any ideas?
