WinRAR is no faster on ssd than on hdd

Question

So I recently installed windows on my new OCZ Agility 3. I wanted to test the read and write speeds in practical situations so I timed how quickly winrar was able to extract a large file from and archive. the results are disappointingly close to what I get when I am performing the same task on my WD green drive.

is there a trick to get SSDs to perform better? is this a limitation of winrar? I saw that less than 25% of my cpu (i5 2500k) was being used during the extraction.

I should add that I have 8gb of 1600 ram and in both tests, all other system components were held constant.

It runs faster for me on my system. I definitely see it fly. Didn't do anything special so can't really tell you what to do. :ermm:

Maybe try 7-zip and see what the performance is like with that. That would tell you whether it's the application that isn't performing optimally or something to do with the system.

25%... is winrar single threaded? 2500k is a quad yes (I'm well behind with Intels latest and greatest)?

You should be able to feel an overall difference with SSD though. Open a few Office apps at once (or similar programs).
