Windows 7 tweaking software: which ones are there out here?

Question

I currently use Total Idea's Tweak-7 for some Windows 7 tweaking (which I can do by myself, but a software program is more relaxed and handier).

Is there another, maybe better, tweaking program for Windows 7 besides Tweak-7?

Have you tried Classic Shell. Does a host of excellent very customizable additions to Explorer, Start Menu and IE9. And there's 7 Taskbar Tweaker for the taskbar. WMP Plus for WMP12.

Tweaking software is BS in modern operating systems.

Don't waste your time.

If you were on Windows XP, I'd say tweak away.

QFT.

Well, you can still tweak 7 and break it if you want too, but that's just a waste of time.

Tweaking apps are not worth it, but customization apps can be useful, but beware that they could mess up something.

Don't listen to the ones who discourage tweaking. Tweaking is all about setting up the OS you want it to work, not the way Microsoft wants it to some others who may be satisfied with the default settings. As long as you have a good understanding of how the OS works technically, you won't break stuff.

Just don't understand the naysayers. Don't speak for someone else just because the OS default settings suit you. This is Neowin, not the Windows marketing blog.

There's no need for 3rd party tweaking tools. In the hands of the wrong users they should be considered harmful

So basically you guys are saying Tweak-7 is not needed? And I just can go with the installed Windows 7 I currently have...

Yes.

Tweaking softwre i know of for windows 7: My brain.

I forgot which was the last tweaking software i have used. Now i just do it manually.

And for those that think tweaking is no longer necessary there are a few tweaks some advanced users may like and even benefit them.

For example setting some services to manual instead of automatic. e.g: windows live id service, error reporting.

Also disabling some services some of us might not need like homegroup provider, Listener. ssdp. etc.

I would only recommend a combination of using msconfig and services.msc to stop, delay or set to manual (in the case of services) startup apps that you don't really need. If you don't feel comfortable modifying services there are always solutions like Soluto. For the ocasional cleansing of the registry or deleting unused files (temps, windows update backups etc) there is an array of tools to choose from.

What is it you're exactly wanting from tweaking software? Anything that can be done with tweaking software can be done manually without installing such crapware.

I think sometimes tweaking software can help, and there are many free ones on the market.

ccleaner and kingsoft pc doctor are both good.

ccleaner and it's magical registry cleaner is the first step to kill your Windows installation.

How :o ?

I never had any problems with CCleaner on both my computers. Yes, I even use the registry cleaner feature even though there is no reason to. Never have any issues with it at all.

Just some tweaks (normaly posted on blackviper or something) that kinda speed up my system with (known) tweaks that makes my PC perform -somewhat- better.

So that I don't have to dive in the registry and stuff myself...

By "tweaking" Windows 7, you'll more than likely hurt performance and end up creating a nightmare for yourself. At best, you'll get a nice "placebo" effect from what you do.

In the end, if you could gain performance by a simple tweak, Microsoft would have already thought of it and implemented it.
