Buying new Camera...two to choose from

Recommended Posts

Buying a new camera...can not afford a DSLR, but dont want a cheaper fit in the pocket type, so was looking at the NonSLR super zoom type camera's. I have an account at Newegg so that is where I will be buying. Each of these are around the 300.00 to 330.00 us dollar range.

Ive read reviews and just about everything I can on these type cameras and these 2 are the ones I came up with. Any one with good knowledge on these? And can you recommend these?

I also saw Sony entry for this range of camera...but although it seems to be alot better, its also 150.00 more than either of these.

Thanks for any help you can lend, was about to pull the trigger this weekend, when I thought I would ask some Neowinians what they thought :)

That camera's fine. Their all gonna have that "digi" look unless you go dslr. Thought about getting a second hand one?

Well....somehow I wandered over to this page ( link below)...hmm...wonder how that happened :) Anyway....how is this for a 1st time dslr? Like I said I have an acct here so its just easier to buy from newegg. I was surprised to see this for only 200.00 more that i was going to spend anyway...Now I am hesitating on the superzoom and considering just getting this.

Second hand DSLR is the way to go.

Now if you want something portable, a superzoom won't cut it. You'll have to go point and shoot.

Depends...

Some people are flexible about what they can/are willing to carry...

I lug my EOS around places where some would only take their smartphone cameras to... :)

I don't have any experience with that camera but I can almost guarantee that after a few weeks using it, and learning about the settings, the difference between that camera and the super zoom will be a professional looking photo compared to an amateur looking photo if you know what I mean. You might be better off asking on a photography forum tbh I don't know a huge amount about photography cameras.

So, again, as I said above. I think this is what I will get as a entry level dslr, just would like to get a few more opinions on it. It's what I can afford/ and avail at Newegg. But if there is a different brand or something else I should be looking at at that price that I am missing I would like to know. They have the nikon but it is 700.00. Too much for me :)

Well the basic zoom lens will NOT give you as much zoom range, an 18-55 is usually what would be considered 3x with a bit of wide angle on a P&S camera.

This is not a bad thing but important for you to consider in this case.

You'll thank yourself if you put a little extra towards a DSLR. :)

IMH Nikon make fantastic DSLRs but I have never found a Nikon point and shoot that I like. Personally I would buy a small canon point and shoot or a DSLR but not a "super zoom". You just don't gain much with the super zoom over a small point and shoot. I would also stop limiting yourself to newegg... an existing account is a poor excuse not to shop around and find what you want. Also, check out the Canon S95 as it's a bit cheaper than the newer S100 if you are on somewhat of a budget. http://www.adorama.com/ICAS95.html
