hornett
Hi, I've just moved in new Uni halls which are fitted with ResNet (basically I'm directly linked via ethernet into the uni's connection). This is all well and good for 3 mins or so, where I can get about 1.3megs a sec on downloads but then the connection just locks and I can view no more pages nor talk on MSN etc. The connection uses a proxy (which is all set up correctly) and I have to log in when i first start using the connection via a web page that pops up. The IT support staff are being about as much use as an underwater shower so I'm hoping somebody might be able to give me a clue as to why this is happening. Hopefully its just a config problem on my end :( ps i've tried using different ethernet cards and cables and i've tried playin with all the network setup wizards to no avail :( :( :( bring back 56k
Frank
Have you upgraded to the newest virus DAT files? I have had this problem with a user, and it was because she had a variant of the Blaster virus.
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted September 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 25, 2003 If you have a firewall you may want to put the proxy IP in the Trusted Zone. My SMC router, and Norton Personal Firewall have both blocked access to my IP's gateway because they thought the traffic was *malicous*.
hornett
I'm sure I don't have a virus / worm because i've used a number of virus checkers to check my system :( As for the firewall- I get the same results with it off and on. Even trying my friends usernames doesnt work. I guess they've blocked my ethernet physical address number or something.
