TV swearing 'rising in US'

Recommended Posts

I think it would be cool if you had the option of cencoring out the language if you wanted to, but for those who don't care, to have it in its original form. Personally, I don't need to hear all the swearing at all. It adds NOTHING to the movie/show/song at all. It detracts from it in my opinion. If I could have the option of removing that stuff I don't want to hear/see but still be able to hear/see the rest of it, that would be great.

Ah, whatever. I don't see the big deal with profanities or sex on tv. It's strange how here it's ok to show someone being killed on tv but if you swear or see someone naked everyone goes nuts.

I'm so glad I live in Sweden when it comes to censorship. Pretty much anything goes here. I think that full frontal nudity/sex is not allowed before 9pm on TV, but that might be just the networks' own rules. We've got childrens' shows where they swear (not like 'f**k', but 'hell' or 'sh*t' I've heard a few times :) It's so hard to translate swearing though, since different words have more 'weight' in different languages. For example, saying 'hell' in Swedish, is pretty much like saying 'f**k' in English).

Then again the church doesn't have much influence at all here, and people in general are very secular.

Tom Green was weird the other day.

He wrot "F**K" on a sheet, and then waved it about. The U and C were clurred so you couldn't read it.

OK so far? No swearing?

But he ran around yelling the word uncensored! Whats with that. You can say it but not write it?

same with in canada.

I wont watch a movie on an american channel simply because they edit/chop out and dub over so much, that it simply ruins the movie. Canadian TV is much more liberal and less controlling of their viewers...if you don't want swearing, flip on the disney channel.

Erm... I'm in Canada??

ok, so i dont curse, but sometimes it IS fitting to a situation.......i dont agree at all that it should be allowed on "Family TV" or whatever, but look how much things have changed in TV.....it was bound to happen that language would change too.

i dont see the hugh deal with swearing on tv either, but thats just my opinion. i hate censorship in all its forms. i do agree that when swearing becomes excessive it is wrong, or when it is used when it would not have to be. pointless swearing is like said, pointless. there are just sometimes when it seems fitting to have a curse.
