Full control of other accounts within Google Mail? (IMAP?)

Question

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help with this... I currently have around 6 different email accounts, I have now set them all up so I can view them through a single Google Mail account.

I spent ages clearing the inboxes of each through this, and now have just a few hundred (!) unread messages... then I noticed that if (for example) I logged into one of the other accounts, the message was still in there.

It's a long shot, but I was wondering if there was anyway so I could configure, say account2@gmail.com, account2@gmail.com, account3@gmail.com to merge with my account1@gmail.com's inbox, and if I delete messages from account1's inbox it will be reflected on the original account too.

Hope that makes some sense... thank you!

Wouldn't it be easier to set the other accounts to "Forward a copy of incoming mail" to your main account, & then mark the original email as deleted? You wouldn't have the emails in your other accounts anymore, but the whole idea would be to access everything through your main account. (though technically you could also mark emails as read, or archive them, after forwarding)

I think what you're asking for can't be done, being able to sync read/deleted emails would require an IMAP connection. Gmail doesn't support accessing other accounts via IMAP, only POP. You could do something like this if you use a desktop client & just set up each account individually, e.g. Outlook 2010 or similar.

Many thanks, I was tempted by that, but running everything through Gmail also allows you to reply to the messages, as well as view them in their original format without all of the forwarding information too.

Shame that Google doesn't support IMAP... but your first paragraph has given me an idea anywya, that once the messages are sucked into my main Gmail account, it wouldn't really hurt to archive all of the others from the other accounts anyway, I guess? I mean I've already got a filtered version of that mail now, so maybe it's not as bad as I thought. I was worried about space but to be honest even on this account now with thousands of emails, I'm still only using 3% of Gmail's capacity!

I can't install anything here unfortunately, nor can I add anything into Gmail, otherwise that would've been a great shout.

Thanks again
