Monitoring / Managing ADSL connections

Hi,

Anyone come across a simple way of monitoring a number of remote ADSL connections to ensure that they remain up?

I'm thinking of a central server app, and a number of distributed client apps which report in either with a basic "Hello" to the server, or possibly with some ADSL stats, on a regular basis.

At the most basic, the server could then email out a warning to me that one of my remote sites has gone off-line, or possibly has a poor connection etc.

Preferrably free, obviously!

TIA

Dave

Nagios I find is one of the best free and most configurable bit of monitor software I'm come across, I'd look into that. You can even graph ping times or ATM drops. If the routers has SNMP (most do) then you can monitor whatever you want from that also, you can configure it for email or SMS.

Cacti will also do what you require quite happily.
