Soul Calibur 2

Recommended Posts

Anybody got it / play(ed/ing) it / which version did you get and why?

Just picked up the XBox version - wont be able to play it till tommorrow when my Xbox arrives, but I needed a game, and this one seemed to be the one to get.

Played the first SC on Dreamcast - wanted to rent all three but my local Global (UK) isnt getting the game in on any platform so I had to buy.

Dont think I will be disappointed, really looking forward to playing as Spawn.

Xbox version apparently has a better resolution - played the PS2 demo, and it was really good, just what I was expecting.

Anyway, if anyone has any comments to add, please do so.

I was kinda spoilt for choice, have a PS2, GC and Xbox (shortly).

Just wish it would hurry up - I have the game here and nothing to play it on !

I just got the cube version a couple of hours ago, and hate it.

In some aspects the graphics are a lot worse than the DC version (a lot of texture shimmering) but overall I suppose they look better.

Control is passable on the cube, but the xbox/ps2 ones will perform better I'm sure.

I don't know what it is that they did to the game, but it just isn't fun anymore in my opinion, and it seems a lot easier.

This one's going back to the shops tomorrow.

My bro is playing Soul Calibur 2 beside me right now on Xbox, and I gotta say, it's one of my favourite fighting games I have played. The gameplay in it is amazing, graphics are amazing, and its just all around a great game.

I have had the cube one for weeks and I love it! Play more into it. Weapon Master is just like the missons on the DC version, they really suck you in. You also get tons of better weapons to fight with. It's really fun. Btw The ps2 version has the worst performance.

Some really mixed feelings about it then. More positive than negative, always a good sign :)

I've played it in the arcade, it's awesome, but I don't know how long the lasting power of it is. Plus since I still play Soul Calibur I on a regular basis, I probably don't need to get SC II quite yet.

And someone just told me F-Zero was sweet :p

I've played ~18 of them, and just didn't enjoy it, it's a nice idea that you can unlock different weapons though.

They have the old missions + new ones, and they get a lot harder when you unlock the new map. Its everything 1 was but better. :ninja:

It's only been out 2 days here in the UK (I got mine early - the virtues of online shopping!). I have the Xbox version, and the graphics are absolutely superb, the sound too. Also running it on a widescreen TV and it looks fantastic. The PS2 version is supposedly the worst, suffering from bad framerates, aliasing etc., next is the GC and top is the Xbox. I also have a PS2, but I've really gone off it these past few months. It's started showing its age, as it were, and I made the conscious decision that I would buy SC2 for Xbox when I knew it was multi-platform.

Spawn's not too bad, but I kind of envy my friend (who is a huge Zelda fan) with his favourite game character in the GC version. The one thing I would complain at (and this is Xbox hardware, not the software) is that it's hard to do some combos because of the raised buttons on the pad. Say you have to do A, B, A very quickly, one after another - it's awkward. I'm not sure if this is improved / fixed on the S-Controller (I only have 1 original pad). Probably me being picky too... :)

I'm still trying to unlock the final character through Weapon Master. Got the other 12, but they really make you work for that final one (people who are on the 2nd set of Weapon Master missions will know who I mean!). Looks so cool though, and you get 6 different versions of him.

I'm really impressed with this game. If they do another sequel, it will have a lot to live up to.

Caelamia: I read that the GC version played better than the XBOX version. Apparently it is because the GC is similar to the DC and SC2 is based on the SC engine (which was developed for the DC) so it runs best on the GC system.

WOW look at all the acronyms!!

No, it's because SC II runs on the triforce board, which is very similar to the gamecube. Same with F-Zero AX/GX being about the same quality.
