Hi all,

I have a file which in XP when trying to rename (right click menu) crashes Eplorer and makes the system unstable until next reboot.

the name of the file is

This chart from the Countryside Agency gives details of areas defined as rural. This will inform credit unions whether they are eligible for reduced rates at Rural Research seminars.pdf

The only way to change it without having to go into recovery command prompt (XP CD) to reduce the file name size was to use the File and folder tasks pane (left pannel)>>rename this file

Try it does this happen to you?

Thanks all

I Know you can have up 256 characters for a filename, but I've never really seen the point, :s

I am aware that certain apps can have issues with using files, that including the directory name exceed 256 characters. Considering the length of the name on this file, if it is nested deep into a directory structure that could be the issue. Try moving it to a higher folder level and see if you still got the problem.
