AIM direct connect

my gf at ucla cannot send files with AIM through direct connect, use kazaa, etc. before they granted her internet access they made her download a couple of programs which she cannot find anymore. i have searched google for an answer and i have not found anything. i thought that maybe you all could help.

The campus has probably blocked a lot of the ports for programs like KaZaa and other services. The only way to get around this is to change the port in the programs to a port that is open. Have her go to http://scan.sygate.com and run a port scan. That should tell her which ports are open that she can use.

If it is against the universities policy (which it probably is since the ports are blocked), if they catch her using it, she will get into some trouble.

you are probably right.

out of all the ports that were open one worked for awhile and then all of a sudden that port did not allow transfers with direct connect.

They might have seen someone using it and closed it. If you continue to change ports, they will get tired of it, and track the IP to your PC. I don't think they will be very nice about it either.
