Least CPU intensive media player inquiry

Question

I would like to know wich media player ( for movies ) is the least CPU intensive .. or least resource intensive

i got an acer aspire one netbook and wanted to maximize my bettery life whilst watching some movies ( xvid codec , 720P resolution)

my model is the one with the atom n455 cpu and GMA3150 gfx card

can barely play any HD 720p content ( atleast of what i tried using diferent codecs and media players )

so far best i could find is MPC with the xvid codec

MPlayer. Far better resource management. The features as well make for a better overall product. For example, when you have multiple files in a folder that are part of a series, the player will scan that folder and automatically determine what the next episode would be. After your file has finished playing it will move onto the next one!

Also it picks up where you left off on each file, so if you quit halfway through you can instantly pick it up the next time you open the file.

MPC-HC, comes with all the hardware accelerated codecs preinstalled so you dont have to install any of those awful codec packs.

as does VLC tho VLC's hardware acceleration is still experimental

Mplayer has all the codecs in but I dono about HA.

you have to find a video player that supports hardware acceleration for YOUR VIDEOCARD

http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/DXVASupport.html :

Unfortunately the MPC-HC decoder only supports the "bitstream mode" at this stage, which means that only the most recent graphic cards are supported :

  • nVidia series 8(9)xxx for H.264 only
  • ATI Radeon HD series for H.264 and VC-1 decoding
