FYI, I've been to well over a dozen different countries, and set foot on every continent other than South America and Antarctica.

Fixed that for you. Again, stop generalizing and assuming that all 300 million + Americans are the same.

Like it or not, what non-Americans see is that America is much more prude than most other countries. It's not a stereotype, news like these confirm it.

Example of a false stereotype: "Swiss people are slow". An accurate stereotype would be "Swiss people don't like strangers" since you can find tons of news about how we (well, 50% of the people...) accepted a stupid anti-minaret law, or how the most powerful political party is racist.

There are minorities that are very prude in many countries - but somehow, these kind of things happen only in the U.S....weird, huh?

Hint: It probably has to do with the fact one of your two political parties (excluding the small ones), which claims to be conservative, is very religion-centric. And Christianity doesn't like naked bodies.

Also, you claim that "Americans can't find another country on the map" is not accurate..may I remind you that almost all of your popular TV channels make frequent mistakes on maps and place countries or cities randomly? That's why people think Americans can't find other countries.

PS: You might have been to a dozen different countries, but if you still think the U.S.' population is more diverse than any other country, you must be blind. I live in Switzerland, and I don't even need to look at other cities than mine to see dozens of different cultures, multiple religions and religious buildings, people from tens of countries, an extremely wide range of political opinions... that argument was valid when the U.S. were founded because the settlers were from many different countries, not any more.

How's this one for criticizing your country? Kiwis are a bunch of sheep ****ers and savage cannibal warriors. Is that a pretty good stereotype? It is about as accurate as stating that Americans can't find another country on a map or that they are offended by bare boobs.

Hit a nerve have they?

I'll see your dozens of different cultures and raise you a few hundred, OK? Seriously, there are people here from every other country and region on Earth.

LOL, he asked for an insult about his country, so I gave him one. No harm, no foul, right?

Just lik I everywhere else, and he was talking about a small town, not the big melting pot cities.

It's a long time since America had open doors and waste most culturally diverse nation. Mos of those diverse people in your nation now are at the very least third generation and simply identify as American and has none of their original culture left.

America is no longer the mos popular nation for immigrants, refugees and asylum. Europe has taken that role. Partly because America is far away, and partly because your borders are now effectively closed and because the American dream is a pipe dream.

Visit some western European countries and you'll see where the cultural melting pos is today in the 21st.

Heh when I want to see something retarded TMZ is it.

Oh wait, that never happens.

There's certainly an extremely vocal subset of Americans that get offended by pretty much everything, which gets us painted with that brush.

Look, I was just really amazed about a lot of the comments on that article.

And I just wanted to see what people here on Neowin thought about a parent being naked in front of his/her kids.

I do realise that not every american is this prude, but you have to admit that in the US people have less of an issue with violence on tv that a bit of nudity.

Well if you really thought that then maybe you should have chose a better title to the thread. I didnt even read the comments because TMZ is just a celebrity gossip site so I can only imagine the people that actually participate in the comment section. My 2 cents on the actual "tweet" is that Tori's husband posted an intimate picture online for the world to see. What goes on behind closed doors should remain there for celebrities since they dont have much of a private life once they leave their homes.

And yes, I'll agree that violence is much easier to air on TV then nudity. But just turn to HBO, Showtime and Cinnemax and you'll get both. :D

Americans aren't prude. The media is. And everybody is just forced to put on a mask in front of the public.

Just go back and read some of the comments of the first few pages. It's not about having a picture on the internet with a boob on it. The comments are all about how bad a mom she is for being naked in front of her kid.

I'll make it easy for you

Jay: 23 hours ago

Even if he did Tweet her Boobs, Why the hell are they even exposed with her child present. He looks a little old to be seeing Mommies Boobies and Privates..... Just Saying!

imsexy&iknowit: 23 hours ago

Why the hell is she naked with her son in the room? Freaking sick!

teagirl22: 23 hours ago

What upsets me about this picture he is young and she is naked in front of him. Its not right to do at all

JRCD: 22 hours ago

Glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks its completely inappropriate that she is naked in front of her son....sick

A.M.D: 22 hours ago

Naked boobs in front of a child, Way to go Tori! #idiot

You are COMPLETELY WRONG. Come here to NYC and say that again

Lets see. I am in a suburb of long island. I get my breakfast and lunch from a deli owner who is 1st gen South Korean, I get my coffee from a crepe place who the owner is from turkey and wife is russian (1st gen) , MY friend at work is First gen equadorian, I get my sometimes eat at a sandwich shop who's owner is from afghanistan, and I help people at work who are from haiti and all over south and central american. All 1st generation.

This is only whats here by me at work. I can come up with more if people like.

You just showed what an idiot you are with this. Our IT department at work is made up of 7 people originally from India, 1 from Belarus, and 1 from the Ukraine. I'm a minority in our IT department and this small town is about 50% Indian so please shut up as you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

It's funny how America is mocked for being prude but people ignore a place like Ireland which is Europe and pretty much all of Asia are more so then the US. It's just more fun to bash the US I guess.

You can say what you want but the general consensus about americans is that they are pretty prude. I'm not saying you are all the same but do i have to remind you about nipplegate? So much uproar about a single nipple on tv for a split second.

Same on this post about Tori Spelling, If you read the majority of the comments they are just sad

Stop it, just because a bunch of bible thumpers and the FCC had a **** fit didn't mean anyone else cared. The media blew this way out of proportion, nobody I knew cared about it at all. The "Religeous Right" stirred up the ADVERTISERS and the FCC, not the general populus.

Look, I was just really amazed about a lot of the comments on that article.

Oh, yes I will admit that in a heartbeat. I never understood how it was ok to show so much violence on TV. I love the new show Grimm, but I won't be letting my 3 year old daughter watch it, the "people turning in to monsters and demons" would be hard to explain well enough to keep her from having nightmares, but I think her seeing the boobs that breast fed her, and the vagina that gave birth to her, or the penis that concived her isn't a big deal. Both her mother (36) and I (43) shower with her and she hasn't woke up screaming yet.

Hey, don't turn this into a 'Oh everybody hates America' tread.

It's all about perception, and in Europe we feel that Americans are pretty prude compared to most Europeans.

Maybe Asians are more prude then you guys, but you guys give us way more reason to think you are prude, with articles like this and your general media

eh in america the east coast doesnt even think the same as the west coast so its hard to say a general idea about the USA is one thing believed by all here.... on the east coast we look at the west coast as highly liberal and stuff like this flys with no problem, do this on the east coast and the police are at your door taking your children away for "child abuse"

And another thread reduced into the US v's _________ thread. Comical really.

Anyway. No information on the circumstances of what was going on in the photo so cant critise either way. I doubt the husband even realised they were showing when he posted the pic. And yeah, saying Americans are prude cause of a few posts is a bit dumb.

So in which circumstances could you critise this???? Other than they were just about to have sex and let the kid watch. I would have an issue with that.

Other then that, there is nothing to say bad about it. There is nothing wrong about being naked in front of your kids in my opinion.

And again, my original question was what Neowin people think about being naked in front of your kids!

EUROPE is not one country . Show me the stats of ONE country that has the diversity of the United States

Canada has more diversity than the United States. We take in a higher percentage of immigrants and refugees. 49.9% of Toronto is foreign born. Vancouver also has a very large visible minority population (favouring East Asians and South Asians). While there are some clusters of ethnicity (there are about six Chinatowns, a Greek Town, Little Italy, Little Portugal, Little India and others) there is a lot more integration as children often relocate to other parts of the city and there is no widespread discrimination against interracial dating (except maybe with the individual parents).

575px-Toronto_census_2006_pie_chart_visible_minorities_population_characteristics.png

p.s. I can't even search for the visible minority of NYC because all of the results seem to be Canadian. I'm guessing that you use a different term.

I'm not sure what you guys said that ****ed off my fellow Americans on the board here, but regardless of what they say, Americans, in general, ARE very prude. We have very strict rules on what can and can't be shown and said on TV, and violations are met with large fines. The majority of our country does think that public nudity or nudity in general is taboo and is only for the bedroom. When you're brought up with it being considered so private, you carry on thinking the same and spread it to the next generation as well. Our government is all about telling us what we should and shouldn't see or hear to "protect" us. Children here are kept under a rock and not allowed to see anything that could be deemed offensive, and therefore grow up not having a clue about the real world, and more worried about getting the latest video game and ignoring what's going on in the world around them.

These are all very very true statements. If it upsets any other Americans on here to hear that, then they are blind to the country they live in. Of course it doesn't apply to everyone, but it very definitely does apply to the country in general.
