Quicktime player too bright on Apple Trailers

Question

Windows 7 x64... When playing any trailer from Apple Trailers, video is too bright. (goes for any local .mov files, a player issue) Anyone found a solution, or some trick for Quicktime player to remember A/V settings ?

Don't say "why do you use Quicktime", I only do so on the Apple Trailers site my fav is MPC-HC for all media. I just despise that overbright look.

Incorrect settings of your graphics card drivers? Reset all settings to their default values (graphics card control panel)

Thanks, but nah... I don't have those issues. (this was tested on 3 systems, not just my PC, an old "problem", it just hit me to ask a pro now)

It's kinda like this:

Probably has to do with black levels not being 0-255 in Quicktime player for computer viewing. As you use MPC-HC, you can find the setting in the player. In MPC-HC it's View->Renderer Settings->Output Range. If you set it to 16-255 you will probably get the same look as in QT player. As I don't use QT, I don't know if it's possible to adjust this (my guess is not).

That's the best explanation I could find on the web. Thanks.

Guess I must live with this "bug".

Although it is indeed a bug in the way Quicktime on Windows deals with colours, whenever I've encountered this issue I've been able to mitigate it via a change in video driver settings. Not sure if you're using an AMD or NVIDIA card, but in the NVIDIA world, in the Video -> Adjust Video Color Settings screen, on the 'Advanced' tab for your monitor, ensure you have 'Full' range selected, not 'Limited' which I believe is the default. In the AMD world, at one point there was a registry setting you could modify to achieve the same result; I'm not sure if you're now able to do that through the Catalyst Control Centre, but I'm sure a quick Google would find an answer.
