Microsoft Word 2010 is slow

Question

Hey all,

I'm running Windows 7 x64 with Microsoft Office installed. Very recently (a few weeks ago) Microsoft Word has starting giving me some issues. It started when I opened a "protected document" and clicked where it says "enable editing" or something of that nature. It was a large document (>30 pages) so it seemed to freeze for a while (said "Not Responding") on the top but eventually unfroze. This happens all the time now whenever I have to click "enable editing." But also, when I close Word it will take forever to actually do so (about 45 seconds). Like I said, this is not normal and the problem started recently.

I will be taking Final Exams soon and have to use Word during the exam to type it up. Any ideas on what could be the issue and what the easiest fix is? I would prefer not to reinstall because by discs are at home not at school

Thanks, I don't need my discs for this do I?

Not normally, the Installer Caches the install files on the Hard Drive. Unless you run disk cleanup applications.......

Disable all add-ins you have and don't need (especially COM ones).

File >> Options >> Add-Ins.

The way you have to do it is one of the worst plugin management systems I've ever seen: there's a small combobox at the bottom that lets you pick which kind of add-ins you want to change, and then you have to click the "Go..." button to change add-ins of that category.

(to give you an idea of what they can do...on my machine Excel starts in 5 seconds with two COM add-ins enabled and 1 without)
