This is purely ridiculous. Never thought a sophisticated country like the UK would do such a thing;

http://digg.com/news...stic_terrorists

Occupy London demonstrators have been listed as domestic terrorists by the City of London Police, who characterized them in the same context as Al-Qaeda, the Colombian FARC and Belarusian terrorists who bombed the Minsk underground.

?The City of London Police force was facing criticism last night after including the Occupy London demonstration in a letter warning businesses about potential terrorist threats,?

Of course they are terrorists. Their aim is to disrupt daily life (business, economy).

So disrupting daily life is an act of terrorism? Do you ever know what the root of the word "terrorism" means?

I don't see the occupy crowd terrorizing anyone, killing anyone, rioting...

Terrorists don't need to kill or riot, they serve as to create a noticable presence. That doesn't need to be aggressive. It also doesn't mean it's "wrong"

There were 3 basic types of people in Occupy sites

True protesters. No problem, it's their right so long as they don't mess up the place or acost innocents and follow the rules.

Bums & other hangers on looking for meals, drugs & whatever.

Professional anarchists, basically the crowd that took over ports our west, breaks things during the G-whatever meetings and in general causes most of the trouble and do damage.

The last are absolutely domestic terrorists.

I do want to stress - I have no view on those we label as "terrorists", because a change of wind and people label them a "hero" (or vice versa).

Ah the irony. The police service has been for some time at odds with reality. You have to give it to them, they've twisted objectivity in a hallucinating way.

I guess others have it worse, if you look in the US, but that's not the point.

Less of their view of security would make me feel safer.

Definition of "occupy" from Wiktionary

interesting parts:

From Latin occupare (?to take possession of, seize, occupy, take up, employ?), from ob (?to, on?) + capere (?to take?)

To conquer somewhere. The Germans occupied the Channel Islands.

Now I assume some supporters of the occupation would claim that they're using a different definition, but how do they know what definition the government assumes they're using? After all, they haven't specified, right?

Article 1 of The Lieber Code

A place, district, or country occupied by an enemy stands, in consequence of the occupation, under the Martial Law of the invading or occupying army, whether any proclamation declaring Martial Law, or any public warning to the inhabitants, has been issued or not. Martial Law is the immediate and direct effect and consequence of occupation or conquest.

The presence of a hostile army proclaims its Martial Law.

Article 2 of The Lieber Code

Martial Law does not cease during the hostile occupation, except by special proclamation, ordered by the commander in chief; or by special mention in the treaty of peace concluding the war, when the occupation of a place or territory continues beyond the conclusion of peace as one of the conditions of the same.

http://www.nps.gov/apco/faqs.htm

There was no treaty signed to end the Civil War.

Seems to me that anyone claiming to be "peacefully occupying" might at least want to specify what they mean by occupy, if not reconsider occupying completely...

Sophisticated? Clearly you have never lived in the UK.

The UK government doesn't want tourists or other countries to see how corrupt and self-serving it is.

I'd actually disagree there.

Politicians here are convicted when they're found to be corrupt.. or at least when they can prove it. For instance when the expenses scandal happens NUMEROUS politicians were jailed. In the US I can't recollect one politician who has been jailed for anything similar. Hell, there have been circumstances when it's been clear that politicians are being lobbied and yet nothing is done. I guess the way the politicians see it, they have all the power and therefore collectively serve the corporations. That seems why the Occupy movement happened.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. There are sub-groups who pledge allegiance to 'Occupy' & "Anonymous' movements committing crimes in their name, who really have their own agenda.

Take the English Defense League (And other "Defense Leagues") for example. This is a grass-roots terrorist organisation in which many of their members are pledging allegiance to 'Occupy' while pushing their own agenda (as there any many other non-mainstream groups pushing their agenda's into Occupy, such as Socialist groups).

EDL are terrorists, as they commit acts of terrorism by Rioting. Rioting causes people caught in it's path to be terrified, and terrifies the general population that they could get caught up the the riots as well.

If Occupy has been infiltrated with groups such as EDL, then who can be sure that Occupy is not going to cause acts of terrorism as well. Even if it is a small group that call themselves 'Occupy' that do it, but most Occupy'ers don't agree with it, it is still in the name of Occupy as Occupy don't have the central organisation to condemn it. The left hand doesn't talk to the right hand - it is just a gathering of many people pushing their own agenda's while saying that they are all united under 'Occupy' to make them agenda's look more popular than what they really are.

The EDL protested earlier this year near where I live... the town got locked down in case violence broke out. Inevitably it did... I'm glad I wasn't working that day (Y)

Nowhere did I say that "anyone who protests against its government is a terrorist".

I guess the UK Occupy crowd is a bit more civilized then. They're most certainly terrorists in the US... They're destroying people's property, stabbing cops, killing eachother, trespassing on other people's property, barring people that actually have jobs from going to them, etc. And inspections of Occupy camps have found tons of weapons, molatov cocktails, and bomb equipment.

If your Occupy movement is anything like ours, it's definitely a group of domestic terrorists.

"Occupy" is a name.

Like the names of many countries, once upon a time Germany was the enemy, now they are the pillar that is holding the EU together. It is the people who control it, people behind the name "Occupy" who we should really look at. Are you sure it is the same people still running the show?

I went down to the Occupy Protesters in Auckland and looked at the sign. Woman rights, gay rights, all sorts of things are up. Probably a third represents what I perceive is the original reason of the protest, now is a collection of protesters who want their say in anything and everything. I'm not for a second saying it is wrong to protest or what they are protesting for is wrong, but if you protest you need a reason and goal. These people have no goals anymore. This is why I hate this movement right now as they are doing nothing. For the love of all that is good, one of them in an interview said they want "world peace". It is a joke of a place, using taxpayer money. They claim they eventually going to save us money, then show us a solution.

The question I ask, what is Occupy these days?

And what if eventually Occupy gets out of hand, who is going to get the blame? The police. Occupy is a good place for terrorism to hide itself in.

I also love the source: "Activist Post" is the site that reported it. Out of all the credible sources out there, surely you can link to a better one.

The Occupy movement is really a joke. On tv they went through some of the protest signs and one woman just had a sign that said "Eradicate Men"... Um... O.K... Seems to be a group that lost their way... lol

If their criteria for terrorism was to disrupt daily life, then why haven't they declared every single one of the strikers from last week, a terrorist?

They sure has hell disrupted MY daily life!

FFS people. Terrorism involves the use or threat of VIOLENCE against civilians to instill fear in order to push an agenda. Disrupting business or daily life is NOT an act of terrorism. Some of you are so biased against the occupy movements that you'll swallow any BS like this.

I'm not. I'm questioning the cops classification, actually. Especially as they're not classifying far more disruptive groups (mass strike last week) similarly.
