Software to stream webcam only when I access it

Question

Is there a software where it can stream my webcam to a remote PC/laptop but only when I access it. I don't want it to stream 24/7 I just want it to start streaming when I access it. Is there a software which can do this?

Pretty much every single IP camera I have ever seen does this out of the box. You connect to its IP, you view what it seeing - some even allow you to control them, pan, tilt, zoom, etc.

What camera are you working with? Unless you were feeding say images to a ftp server or something, even a webcam connected to a computer would not actually be "streaming" the data anywhere unless someone was connected to it.

^ like I said pretty much ever single IP camera will do this - no need to actually have a computer on ;)

I would get one with pan/tilt/zoom if you looking to watch your dogs if you ask me -- some even have mic and or speakers so you could say stuff to your dogs, which might drive them crazy if they can not see you ;)

Something like this for example

You can connect optional speakers if you want ;) And even has night vision.

I have considered an IP camera with PTZ but they're currently out of my price range. Perhaps after the holidays. For now, I will have to use what I have.

what you have is fine -- what I am not understanding is why you think its going to be streaming anything anywhere if your not connected to it?

My bad -- your not the OP. There are like a bajillion ways to access your webcam.. Does it work with say skype or gmail chat, etc. What webcam are you using?
