Sendto shorcut problem

Question

Hello, a rare visit for some help.

I found that after building this new system and reinstalling 7 and the rest that the sendto shortcut with respect to the desktop

stopped working.

So I browsed to the specific folder (C:\Users\Lee\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo) and removed the sendto shortcut.

I then right clicked inside of the folder and selected create new shortcut and set location and all seemed to work fine.

However it will create a shortcut to desktop, but copies a whole icon or an example it wanted to copy 1tb of music files from my media drive (partition E:)

rather than a shortcut link to folder.

I have removed all third party copying software (Teracopy) to see if that was the problem and it isn't.

So any ideas before googlin?

Thanks in advance!

Seems you didn't catch that the desktop sendto is a .desklink file, not a normal shortcut.

You need to create the correct filetype for just shortcuts to desktop.. If yours stop working, than I would say something messed up your association for .desklink

Key Name:          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.desklink
Class Name:        <no class="">
Last Write Time:   7/13/2009 - 10:53 PM
Value 0
  Name:            <no name="">
  Type:            REG_SZ
  Data:            CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}

Key Name:          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.desklink\PersistentHandler
Class Name:        <no class="">
Last Write Time:   7/13/2009 - 10:53 PM
Value 0
  Name:            <no name="">
  Type:            REG_SZ
  Data:            {098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}

I can give info from where the classes_root goes too if you need it.. But I would just google for .desklink fix, etc.

Hello, thanks for the reply.

You're right, I fixed the problem myself after noting the differences in the files in that folder.

I made sure that what is written below was present in the registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DeskLink]

@="CLSID\\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DeskLink\PersistentHandler]

@="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"

I also made sure file associations were present and correct.

Thanks again Lee
