Couple caught having sex on subway platform

TORONTO ? A couple nabbed having sex on a moving TTC subway car gave a whole new meaning to ?Ride the Rocket.? ()

When the young man and young woman began making love on a southbound University line coach around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, a disgusted passenger pressed the yellow emergency strip.

After the train?s guard finished putting the brakes to their tryst, the apparently drunken pair moved onto the Spadina station platform and continued the horizontal shuffle on the tile floor ? with the man?s naked bottom and her naked legs caught on video by a passerby.

?They were on the subway train itself...they were having intercourse,? TTC spokesman Brad Ross said Monday.

He said while such unwelcome activity may have occurred before, ?this is the first report I?ve seen in the almost four years I?ve been here.?

They requested an emergency stop for that? I don't know how the system works up there but here we have an intercom which does nothing to stop the train. It seems kind of silly and stupid to press for an emergency stop.

There are two stopping mechanisms on a TTC subway train: the yellow emergency strip alerts the train operators, and they stop the train at the next station to investigate - which is what happened here. The second more extreme stop is located at the front of every second car (not on the newest trains) that acts as an emergency brake: pull on the red lever and the train grinds to a halt. The new trains forego the red emergency lever in favour a train-wide intercom.

The yellow stop strip's official uses are for "fire, harassment, threats to personal safety, and vandalism."

It's not uncommon to hear on the intercoms for other trains that the train you're on is experiencing delays "due to a passenger safety assistance alarm activated on a train."

Well that makes more sense, I figured as soon as you pressed it it alerted them to stop in the tunnel not next station.

even then they're still abusing the alarm for simple public disorder. not like it's harming them. just using the intercom is fine.
